Watch: NFL fine Seahawks’ Joey Hunt following heated sideline altercation with Eagles’ AJ Brown

The Seattle Seahawks are one of those lucky teams to give an upsetting defeat to the formidable Philadelphia Eagles squad, which was nearly unstoppable during the initial weeks of the 2023 NFL season. With seven wins and seven losses, the Seahawks are grappling with uncertainty regarding their playoff run this year, although the win against Philadelphia will definitely boost their confidence in the upcoming games.

Besides the intense battle, the Week 15 match between the Eagles and Seahawks hit the headlines for a sideline altercation. The heated brawl between Philly wide receiver AJ Brown and Seahawks offensive lineman Joey Hunt has earned the latter a significant fine lately.

NFL fine Joey Hunt for misconduct

Joey Hunt was fined $1,610 by the NFL due to a sideline altercation with Brown during Monday night’s game, via NBC Sports. Despite being a part of the team’s practice squad, he was subject to a pro-rated amount for the standard first-offense unsportsmanlike conduct fine, in line with the NFL’s proration practice for fines levied against practice squad players.

The league clarified that the OL’s penalty stemmed from unsportsmanlike conduct. It made him the first Seahawks player to receive a fine since Week 14, where Jaxon Smith-Njigba, D.K. Metcalf, and DeeJay Dallas were slapped with penalties from the league.

Joey Hunt’s journey with the Seahawks has seen its share of highs and lows. He initially joined the team after being drafted in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft from TCU. Over four years, the veteran contributed to the franchise by playing in 20 games and starting three at center.

However, in the summer of 2020, the Seahawks released him, which ultimately led him to a brief stint with the Indianapolis Colts during the 2020 season. After appearing in only one game for the Colts, he returned to the Seahawks in 2022 and has since been part of their active, practice, and reserve rosters.

The infamous incident between Joey Hunt and AJ Brown erupted in the third quarter of the Week 15 match following a deep pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts aimed at Brown, tightly covered by cornerback Mike Jackson. As the ball fell incomplete, Jackson forcefully pushed Brown towards the Seahawks’ sideline.

Brown, in reaction to the push, shoved Jackson in retaliation. This action caught the attention of Hunt, leading to a physical altercation between him and the Eagles star. Keeping aside the altercation, the Monday Night Football telecast referred to Joey Hunt as a “staff member.”

The veteran and the Seahawks managed to find humor in the chaos. Hunt, donning a practice jersey with the playful label “Staffer” written on the back, brought a lighthearted touch to the incident during subsequent practices.

Despite the intensity of the altercation, no penalties were issued against any of the players. Nevertheless, this incident came into the national spotlight, especially in the wake of another sideline clash in Week 13 involving Dre Greenlaw of the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles’ security head, Dom DiSandro.

This altercation between Dom and Greenlaw saw both individuals ejected from the game, and DiSandro was even banned from Philly’s sideline for the remainder of this season.
