The 24-year-old was strolling on a South Florida highway that night after getting out of his car after running out of petrol on I-595 and heading off on foot to find a gas station nearby.
According to the initial consideration, Haskins unexpectedly stepped into the road and was hit by a dump truck. Based on the report, the dump truck driver was not guilty because there was nothing he could have done to prevent the incident.
He was found dead from blunt force injuries, according to his medical report, and no charges had been brought against anyone at the time. The Heisman Trophy finalist was in Florida at the time for team practice. He reportedly “drank heavily” at a nightclub before the incident.

The family of a former Ohio State University star could not accept their son’s death as a simple accident. As they investigated the primary narrative, they discovered several disturbing facts that made them unable to accept it as a simple accident.
The lawsuit asserted that Dwayne may have been the target of a blackmail plot prior to the tragedy, according to Haskins’ family attorney Rick Ellsley in a release. CBS Sports reported that he was wearing a “highly expensive watch” that “was stolen from him shortly before his death,” which caused alarm and led his family to believe it was a robbery case as well.
“It is believed that Dwayne was targeted and drugged as part of a blackmail and robbery conspiracy. What occurred in the hours before Dwayne was killed, many questions remain unanswered,” Ellsley wrote in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit also identified the driver as the main culprit, noting that he was speeding, driving negligently, and hauling too much luggage.
“The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Report shows that Dwayne was only feet away from making it safely across the roadway when he was struck and killed by an old dump truck,” the lawsuit states. “This truck was going faster than the speed limit, carrying excessive cargo, had brake system problems, and was traveling on low tread tires with separated sidewalls.”
Dwayne enjoyed a three-year professional football career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins before his death. So, like his family, NFL fans are wondering what exactly happened to cause his injury.
