Good teams know how important quality goalkeepers are, which is why Manchester United have splashed some cash on Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
David de Gea proved he didn’t have the qualities of a modern goalkeeper last season. Erik ten Hag twisted his tactics to accommodate the Spaniard as he was forced to ditch his plans to play for the back due to the goalkeeper’s inability to use his feet. This halted United’s progress sometimes, and it became evident that the club needed a new goalkeeper to fit right into the manager’s system.
De Gea didn’t just cost Manchester United games last season. His errors cost the club an FA Cup trophy, as a few mistakes in the finals led to goals scored by City’s Ilkay Gundogan.
United announces Andre Onana’s capture
Manchester United have made the signing of Andre Onana from Inter Milan official after weeks of speculation. The fans seem to have welcomed this news with great joy, as they had been expecting the deal to be wrapped up in time for the Cameroonian to be part of the club’s ongoing pre-season tour. United made the deal official with a social media post with the caption, “That’s his name. Andre Onana is United.”

This makes Andre Onana United’s second summer signing following the onboarding of Mason Mount from Chelsea some weeks ago. The transfer window still looks far from over for United, who are in the market for a striker and another midfielder to boost the squad depth ahead of the new season.

The goalkeeper, who will wear number 24 for United next season, has spoken about his move to Manchester United, as posted by Fabrizio Romano.

Onana to join pre-season squad in the US
Andre Onana will now fly to the US to join the rest of the squad for the club’s pre-season tour in the United States. United are preparing for a pre-season friendly against Arsenal on Saturday, and Onana may have a part to play in the match if he’s fit enough.
United have already played two games this pre-season, winning against Leeds and Lyon. New signing Mason Mount has appeared in both games and will hope to get more minutes in his tank when United faces Arsenal on Saturday in the United States.
