In a surprising twist, Mace—real name: Dio Maddin—reminisced about a funny experience he had with Brock Lesnar as he was leaving WWE. Being a former WWE superstar, he is now working on a career outside of wrestling. During a Twitch live, he shared some hilarious memories from his time in the company.
Before Mace joined Retribution and his career as a male model took off, he worked as a Raw commentator going by his stage name Dio Maddin. Unfortunately, Brock Lesnar’s decision to lay him out put a quick stop to his time as a commentator.
Mace shares his experience with Brock Lesnar
Mace, a former WWE announcer, recently shared a memorable experience from his wrestling career with the legendary Brock Lesnar in Ask Me Anything. Mace revealed details of an incident when he defended fellow commentator Jerry Lawler from Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman when he was a member of the Raw announce crew under the identity Dio Madden.
A trio of commentators—Mace, Vic Joseph, and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler—was added when Paul Heyman was appointed as the Executive Director of Monday Night Raw. In a Twitch chat with his ex-WWE coworker Mansoor, Mace reflected on his commentary stint, saying that he enjoyed it and that Vic Joseph had contacted him about the possibility.
After reflecting on the Raw episode when Brock Lesnar executed the F-5 on Mace through a table, he realized it was meant to show how serious Lesnar is. Mace thinks it may have backfired, as he inadvertently showcased Lesnar’s supremacy despite Lesnar’s size advantage. Even if the results weren’t what he had hoped for, he still has fond memories of his time in the ring and is grateful for the experience.
Brock Lesnar gets branded “monster” by former WWE talent
After Maven surprised the Undertaker by removing him from the 2002 Royal Rumble, the latter quickly retaliated, creating a buzz in the process. Regardless, Maven made it into WWE’s main roster and quickly became embroiled in a rivalry for the Hardcore Championship.
Maven recently discussed his meeting with Brock Lesnar in an interview with NotSam Wrestling, calling Lesnar a terrifying “monster.” The fact that Lesnar’s famed F5 move became a part of his arsenal, and while Maven was the victim of an assault by Lesnar, he proudly claims the honor of being the first superstar to experience it on WWE television.
He said in the interview, “You’ve seen like in Pamplona the Running of the Bulls? Imagine if they took one of those bulls, knocked its horns off, stood it up, and took it to walk on its hind legs. That’s what it looked like watching Brock Lesnar walk into a room.”
The Beast had a lengthy absence from WWE action. What do you think would be the most fitting occasion to celebrate his remarkable return? Share your opinion in the comment section.
