NFL Injury News: Bills OL Tommy Doyle receives season-ending injury, Cowboys rookie John Stephens suffers from torn ACL

The NFL preseason is not letting the Buffalo Bills and the Dallas Cowboys have peaceful times as both teams lost their last preseason games. Besides getting slapped by the rival team, the Bills and the Cowboys are also having a hard time dealing with injuries ahead of the regular season.

Buffalo backup offensive tackle Tommy Doyle and Dallas rookie tight end John Stephens Jr. are the latest two players to go through scary injuries during this preseason time. Tommy was selected by the Bills in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft while John went undrafted out of Louisiana.

Injury update on Tommy Doyle

Doyle went through a knee injury and was carted off the field during Buffalo’s second half of a 27-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday. His leg was put into an air cast and he could only stand for a while before being placed onto the cart.

The Bills coach Sean McDermott announced the veteran player is set to miss the entire 2023 season with a left knee injury, albeit he didn’t specify the nature of his injury.

“It’s just unfortunate. He’s worked so hard and put in so much time and I know how much this game means to him and how much this team means to him.”

The 25-year-old was recovering from September’s ACL tear in his right knee. He played in 12 games over his first two seasons and had a key contribution to Buffalo’s 47-17 victory over the New England Patriots in the 2021 AFC Wild Card.

Injury update on John Stephens

Stephens Jr. suffered a torn ACL during the Bills‘ Saturday’s 22-14 loss in the preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. The tight end is expected to miss the entire 2023 season, per The Dallas Morning News.

John Stephens Jr.

The former Logansport has been playing incredibly during the training and also moonlighted as a hero in the Cowboys’ first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars by recording a team-high five catches for 56 yards while scoring a touchdown.

Just before him, Dallas rookie linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was carted to the locker room in the first quarter after suffering a left knee injury while tackling the Seahawks’ Zach Charbonnet.
