Conor McGregor provides definite date for his major fight announcement

Conor McGregor, the former two-division champion in the UFC, is one of the most recognizable personalities in combat sports. The Irishman carved a name for himself in the combat sports realm with witty trash talk and exemplary performances inside the octagon.

McGregor missed the entirety of 2022 and 2023 due to the injury he suffered during his fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. His return is highly anticipated, mainly due to his stature as a global icon in the realm of combat sports.

Conor McGregor announces date for major update

Following his horrific leg break, McGregor returned to the UFC, not as a fighter but as a coach in the recent Ultimate Fighter reality series. Top-ranked lightweight Michael Chandler coached opposite McGregor at the series, and the two were supposed to fight in late 2023. However, USADA regulations prevented McGregor from fighting in 2023, as he only entered the USADA testing pool in October of 2023.

UFC CEO Dana White recently had a conversation with the “Notorious” Conor McGregor in the UAE as White visited Abu Dhabi for business and McGregor was in Dubai. McGregor is known to tweet outrageously, and he even tweeted about having a hypothetical fight with Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo for a whopping $250 million.

Now, McGregor has turned heads with a tweet that sent the MMA community into a frenzy on social media. “I will be announcing my fight date and opponent on New Years Day, 2024.”, tweeted McGregor, promising to shed light on his upcoming opponent and fight date on January 1, 2024.

It needs to be noted that McGregor was rambling about wanting to box Manny Pacquiao when he was in Riyadh to watch ‘The Battle of the Baddest’. However, Pacquiao recently announced his debut in an exhibition boxing bout with a Muay Thai legend scheduled for April 2024.

Ilia Topuria proposes UFC Spain showdown with McGregor

A fight with Conor McGregor is the most lucrative fight an MMA fighter can get. Being the highest-paid athlete in the UFC, the Irishman’s opponents are also heavily paid by the premier MMA promotion in the world, the UFC. As such, there is no shortage of opponents for McGregor to fight, as fighters from multiple weight divisions want to fight him.

Dustin Poirier recently stated that he is interested in a fourth fight with McGregor even though he leads 2-1 in the trilogy and has won the last two. Now a certain undefeated featherweight has voiced his interest in fighting the biggest superstar in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“Topuria vs McGregor #ufcspain”, tweeted Ilia Topuria, who will be fighting for the undisputed featherweight title against Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski at UFC 298. It needs to be noted that McGregor was a former champion in the featherweight division and a fight between Topuria and McGregor could do massive numbers in Europe.

However, McGregor has not fought at featherweight since he moved up from the division. It is not cause for worry about a fight between McGregor and Topuria happening, as the Georgian fighter has competed in lightweight and has even scored a brutal KO victory. Nevertheless, Topuria vs. McGregor is a far-fetched dream, as there are big names for McGregor to fight at lightweight.
