Drew Ogletree Arrest: What are the ramifications of Clots’ TE’s indictment for domestic violence?

The Indianapolis Colts are in the midst of a playoff race, currently standing at 8-7 with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. Amidst their pursuit of postseason success, the Colts have discovered a dependable asset in tight end Drew Ogletree.

On the flip side, the team is facing significant challenges due to multiple injuries on their roster, particularly concerning Michael Pittman Jr. and Zack Moss. To compound their woes, Drew Ogletree has brought additional trouble to the team.

Details on Drew Ogletree’s arrest

Drew Ogletree has found himself entangled in a legal web after being arrested on domestic violence charges. The footballer is facing serious allegations, charged with domestic battery in the presence of a child less than 16 years old and domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, both classified as felonies in the state of Indiana.

The incident unfolded in Hendricks County, Indiana, where Drew Ogletree was taken into custody after an investigation into a domestic disturbance at a residence in the Indianapolis suburb of Avon on Tuesday night. The charges leveled against the 25-year-old carry significant weight, being categorized as Level 6 felonies.

As of early Saturday afternoon, Ogletree remains in custody without bond. Avon police were initially dispatched to the residence on Tuesday to address a reported domestic disturbance involving Ogletree and a woman. The first responding officer found the woman in an upstairs bedroom, visibly distressed and in pain.

According to a probable cause affidavit provided to ESPN, the woman recounted an argument about messages on Ogletree’s phone, during which he allegedly “body slammed” her to the ground. The incident transpired while the woman was on the phone with her sister, who promptly contacted the police, and later the victim was transported to the hospital. Notably, this disturbing confrontation unfolded while Ogletree’s young son was present in the home.

Following a comprehensive investigation, an arrest warrant was issued on Thursday, prompting Ogletree to surrender himself to the Hendricks County Jail on Friday. The victim, later admitted to the hospital, asserted that Ogletree had “body slammed” her during the altercation. In his statement to the police, Ogletree claimed the victim had attempted to hit him before he pushed her to the ground.

The incident reportedly began after the victim broke Ogletree’s phone, sparking a chain of events that ended with Ogletree’s arrest. The presence of his young son at home adds another layer of concern to this troubling situation.

What consequences will Drew Ogletree face if he is found guilty?

As per legal insights from Suhre & Associates LLC, a sentencing court, upon conviction of a Level 6 felony, can impose incarceration and a fine. Hence, Ogletree’s potential jail sentence ranges from six months to two-and-a-half years, with the court having the authority to levy fines of up to $10,000. Importantly, individuals sentenced for a Level 6 felony cannot be remanded to prison. Instead, they serve their sentence in the county jail.

Presently, Drew Ogletree is held without bond, according to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, his designation on the commissioner’s exempt list renders him unable to participate in team activities, including practice sessions and games.

The Colts wasted no time in responding to the allegations, releasing a statement on Friday expressing their concern over the nature of the charges. The team emphasized its commitment to taking such matters seriously and has already informed the NFL of the situation. The Colts are actively engaged in gathering more information to address the issue comprehensively.

“The team takes these matters seriously. We have notified the NFL and are in the process of gathering more information. We will have no further comment at this time,” the statement read.

The Colts tight end managed to make an impact in the current season, playing in 12 games and contributing with nine receptions for 147 yards and two touchdowns.
