Conor McGregor, one of MMA’s biggest superstars, has not fought since his unfortunate leg break during his fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. The former two-division champion was recently in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to witness the highly anticipated boxing event billed as ‘Day of Reckoning’.
McGregor recently teased a $250 million hypothetical fight with Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo on X, formerly Twitter. After that, McGregor tweeted that he would announce his opponent and his return date on New Year’s Eve.

Conor McGregor began his UFC career at featherweight where the Irishman became the champion with a quick knockout of long-reigning champion, Jose Aldo. McGregor has not fought at featherweight since then as he would follow it up with a pair of fights with Nate Diaz at welterweight.
McGregor, a former two-division champion at Cage Warriors, would then repeat the feat at UFC with a third-round finish of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 to win the UFC lightweight title. Since then, he has fought at welterweight and lightweight. Now, McGregor has announced his return date in a tweet video on New Year’s Eve.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Happy New Year to you all! I’d like to announce the tour date for myself, the notorious Conor McGregor, for the greatest comeback of all time.”, McGregor said in the video tweet announcing his return. “It will take place in Las Vegas for International Fight Week on June 29th.”, McGregor further said of his return date which will be at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on 29th June 2024.
“The opponent, Michael Chandler, and the weight, Mr. Chandler, 185 lb.”, McGregor said of his opponent at the PPV event also of the weight. Interestingly, the fight against Chandler would be at middleweight. Both McGregor and Chandler have not fought at middleweight before.
Who is Conor McGregor’s potential opponent for UFC return fight?
Conor McGregor recently announced his return which is at middleweight against ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler. Chandler, a former three-time lightweight champion at Bellator MMA. Moreover, he also challenged for the vacant lightweight title but was unsuccessful against Charles Oliveira.
Chandler is 2-3 in the UFC but has 4 post-fight bonuses in the 5 fights with his fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 268 winning the 2021 Fight of the Year award by the UFC. Chandler was a rival coach against McGregor in the latest season of the Ultimate Fighter.
Many other names were in contention to face McGregor. The Irishman was caught bashing Manny Pacquiao in Riyadh for not accepting a fight with McGregor. Moreover, Dustin Poirier even hinted at his interest in a fourth fight with the Irishman.
Another name in contention was Nate Diaz who is 1-1 against Conor McGregor. However, Diaz recently left the UFC and fought Jake Paul in boxing and lost via unanimous decision. BMF Champion Justin Gaethje was another name rumored to face McGregor.
