Stipe Miocic, one of the most accomplished fighters in UFC heavyweight history, has not fought since his second-round TKO loss to Francis Ngannou. Miocic was scheduled to headline UFC 295 with Jon Jones for a heavyweight title fight, but Jones pulled out due to injury and the bout was scrapped altogether.
Nevertheless, the UFC and Dana White are stubborn to make the fight between Jones and Miocic happen due to the two being the GOATs of the light heavyweight and heavyweight division respectively. In Jones’ case, he is the arguable GOAT of MMA.
Stipe Miocic recalls victory at UFC 195
Stipe Miocic recently recalled his UFC heavyweight title eliminator fight with Andre Arlovski on X, formerly Twitter. The fight, which happened on January 2, 2023, at UFC 195 was the co-main event of the PPV event. Miocic destroyed Arlovski in 54 seconds of the first round and got him a title shot against then-champion Fabricio Werdum.
Miocic would go on to win the title from Werdum via KO in the first round followed by title defenses against Alistair Overeem, Junior Dos Santos, and Francis Ngannou. He would finish Overeem and Dos Santos in the first round and win a dominant unanimous decision victory over Ngannou.
Miocic would then lose the title to Daniel Cormier, the then-light heavyweight champion moving up in weight. He would win back the title from Cormier and finish their trilogy with a title defense. This would set the stage for a highly anticipated rematch with Francis Ngannou, who was on a four-fight first-round finish streak.
Unlike their first fight, Ngannou showed improvements in wrestling and would easily overpower Miocic to a second-round KO victory. The fight, which headlined the UFC 260 PPV, was the last time Miocic graced the octagon.
Fans react to Stipe Miocic’s stone-cold KO
Even though Stipe Miocic has not fought since the brutal KO loss to Francis Ngannou in March of 2021, fans still fondly remember Miocic as the best heavyweight ever in the UFC. Miocic’s recent video post on X got positive responses from fans on Platform X.
“Heavyweight GOAT!! Excited to see you return to the octagon, king. Give em hell one last time!🔥🔥🛸”, commented one fan who acknowledged the stature of Miocic in the heavyweight division. Even though Miocic will be 42 when he fights next, he wants the Cleveland native to fight one more time before calling it quits.
“HW 🐐”, commented another fan who also acknowledged the greatness of Miocic. Miocic’s resume speaks for itself. He has the most defenses in UFC heavyweight history and also the most finishes and knockouts in title fights at heavyweight. Moreover, if victorious against Jon Jones in his upcoming fight, he could stake a claim for one of the best fighters to ever compete in UFC.
