Watch: NFL icon Tyreek Hill needed to leave Dolphins practice early after $7 million house caught fire

The Miami Dolphins, with an 11-5 record, are reeling from a tough 56-19 defeat against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17, adding to the tension as veteran receiver Tyreek Hill contends with injuries. Despite the setback affecting Tyreek’s pursuit of a record, he remains determined to overcome any obstacles hindering his success.

Nevertheless, as the team anticipates a comeback in the NFL season finale, Hill received distressing off-field news that temporarily might have shaken his resolve.

Tyreek Hill’s $7 million house caught fire

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s residence in Southwest Ranches, Florida, faced significant damage in a fire on Wednesday. Firefighters from multiple units responded to the scene, and though the fire has been extinguished, officials are awaiting an investigation to determine its cause.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. in the gated community of Southwest Ranches. Aerial footage displayed dense smoke emerging from the mansion as crews worked to contain the situation. Hill was spotted wearing casual attire and a boot on his left foot after returning to the home during the aftermath, embracing family members. He was later seen engaging with authorities to determine the extent of the fire.

The extent of the damage remains uncertain, raising questions about the habitability of the property. The second-season veteran acquired the residence in May 2022, spending nearly a year in the $6.9 million, 9,300-square-foot house, per Fox 16. The luxurious estate features seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a home theater, a full-size basketball court, a spacious pool, and two guest houses.

While the cause and extent of the fire are yet to be determined, the incident marks an unfortunate turn for Hill and his family, who have had a relatively brief tenure in their Florida home.

Update on Tyreek Hill and his family

Following the destructive fire that caused extensive damage to Tyreek Hill’s residence, there was a sense of relief as all occupants managed to evacuate safely prior to the arrival of firefighters. Thankfully, no injuries were recorded, and while there was a significant loss, the safety of Hill’s family was the primary concern.

The Miami Dolphins promptly released a statement, reassuring Hill that he had communicated with his family and that everyone was out of harm’s way. Nevertheless,  the player prioritized his family’s safety and left practice to attend to the situation.

“Tyreek has been in communication with his family. Everyone is out of the house and safe at this time. He has also left practice to deal with the situation,” the Dolphins statement assured.

The Dolphins’ quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, whom Hill wants to win the MVP, expressed empathy for Hill and his family, acknowledging the emotional toll such incidents can take. Despite the material losses, Tagovailoa emphasized the paramount importance of the family’s safety.

“I think that would be difficult for, not just my teammates, but for anyone in general to be going through what Tyreek is going through right now. I think the main thing is his family is safe. His loved ones are good. He’s good as well. I know it’s a little cliche to say, but those things like that, part of the house, some of those things can be replaceable. I’m just glad that a lot of his family members are safe.”

According to Tyreek Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, several family members were present in the house during the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and Rosenhaus later noted that the damage was primarily confined to a single room.
