Defender Kamal Miller has parted ways with Inter Miami to join the Portland Timbers, signing a deal that runs until 2026, with an option to extend for an additional year. The club decided to trade the player, receiving $625,000 in General Allocation Money, along with a 2024 international roster slot from the Portland Timbers in exchange.
The club officially confirmed the departure of center-back Kamal Miller to fellow MLS rivals Portland, extending their best wishes for his future endeavors.
The statement read, “We have received General Allocation Money and a 2024 international roster slot from the Portland Timbers in exchange for defender Kamal Miller. We wish you the best in your new chapter in Portland, Kamal!”
The Canadian international, who represented his nation in the Qatar World Cup 2022, has spent the last five years in Major League Soccer, playing for Orlando City, Montreal, and most recently for Inter Miami in the previous season. Kamal Miller made 36 appearances for the Miami-based side.
The 26-year-old played a crucial role in the club’s historic first-ever trophy win during ‘the Leagues Cup campaign in August, serving as a key figure in the heart of the defense. Hence, his transfer comes as a surprise after just a single season since his arrival in 2023.

He had the opportunity to explore Europe as a free agent with options this offseason, but instead, he chose to re-sign with Inter Miami and be part of the Leo Messi project — only to be traded to the Portland Timbers months later.”
