The English forward Jadon Sancho’s spell of uncertainty at Old Trafford is at last approaching its conclusion as Manchester United is closing in on a loan deal for the player to make a return to his former Bundesliga side, rejoining Borussia Dortmund.
In September, Sancho was dropped from the playing squad following a dispute between him and the club’s manager Erik Ten Hag. Subsequently, he was forced to train alone after being excluded from the first-team squad—the forward hopes to revive his career at the club where he made his name.
How much will BVB pay for Jadon Sancho?
Jadon Sancho has not participated in the action for the past five months and is now eager to get back on track as the January transfer window brings new hope for the player. The 23-year-old is on the verge of reuniting with Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window.
The Englishman is set to spend the next six months in Germany on loan from Manchester United. As per reports, the Bundesliga club has agreed to pay a small fee of £3.5 million towards Sancho’s wages, while the Red Devils are obliged to cover the rest of his £300,000-per-week salary.
The yellow and black have also agreed to acquire him on a permanent transfer for a £26 million fee following the completion of the loan in the summer. Manchester United is already exploring potential replacements for Jadon Sancho, with Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise being one of the names on the list for summer targets.
In 2021, United splashed £73 million to secure the signature of the English international, bringing him to Old Trafford. However, after three seasons, the club’s one of the highest-paid transfers has turned out to be highly unsuccessful, prompting both parties to definitively part ways this month.
Jadon Sancho’s contrasting performance at both clubs
Jadon Sancho’s initial spell at Signal Iduna Park lasted from 2017 to 2021. The Manchester City product moved to the Bundesliga after facing challenges in securing a spot in Pep Guardiola’s main team in England. His decision to join Dortmund marked a significant leap in his career.
He enjoyed an immensely successful stint with the German giants, helping his side lift a couple of trophies (the DFB Pokal and Gemran Super Cup) while being awarded as the top scorer of the Pokal Cup campaign. Overall, he amassed 114 goals and contributions in 137 matches.
In contrast, at Manchester United, the forward’s numbers witnessed a substantial drop, managing only 12 goals and 6 assists in a total of 82 games over three seasons. Notably, alongside his loss of form, regular injuries and fitness issues played a major role in the collapse of his Old Trafford stay.
