Hosts Indiana Pacers played the Boston Celtics in the game which saw their beloved star Tyrese Haliburton exit mid-game to the locker room. Having a positive campaign this season, the point guard has been instrumental for his team.
Following his injury, the Pacers star could not continue on the court and had to leave for medical examinations.
Tyrese Haliburton injury update
One of the most fluid players of the game, Tyrese Haliburton exited the Pacers’ game against the Boston Celtics mid-way after an unfortunate incident made the player unavailable to the Pacers.
In the incident, Haliburton’s leg slipped beyond control in a drive attempt which led to him falling awkwardly on the court. Following the mishap, the star was unable to walk his way to the locker room and needed support from his teammates to gather himself.
Tyrese Haliburton has been magical for the Pacers all season with his elite scoring and facilitating skills. This season, the star has had multiple games where he had 20+ assists in a single game.
While the extent of injury is unclear, the hamstring strain may keep Haliburton away from basketball and the Pacers will hope that it won’t drastically affect their playoff chances after their powerful showing this season.
This season Haliburton is averaging 23.6 points per game while dishing out 12.5 assists per game. The star has also been a fan-favorite this season. According to ESPN, Haliburton leads the Eastern Conference guards in voting with a total of 1.3 million votes in the first round.
The star will undergo an MRI scan, tomorrow to determine the extent of the injury and to decide a timeline for the player to return to action.
Despite Haliburton’s injury, the Pacers found a way to clinch a victory over the Celtics.
Pacers overcome Celtics despite Haliburton woes
In the absence of Tyrese Haliburton, the Pacers overcame all odds and scraped a victory against the Eastern Conference leaders, the Boston Celtics.
Jaylen Brown’s 40-point night went in vain as the Celtics lost to the Pacers who were playing without their superstar Haliburton. While the Pacers could not avail Tyrese Haliburton’s services for the entire game, the Celtics entered the fixture without their main star, Jayson Tatum who had to be rested after the player picked up a left ankle sprain. The Celtics also missed one of their main shooting threats as Sam Hauser was ruled out following a right shoulder impingement.
In the absence of his co-star, Jaylen Brown showed why he deserved his massive contract as he rose to the occasion and scored a game-high 40 points, shooting 65.4% from the field and 75% from behind the arc.
Stepping up in Tyrese Haliburton’s absence, Benedict Mathurin did the brunt of the damage as he scored a team-high 26 to lead the Pacers to victory in front of their home crowd. The Pacers rallied together in a coordinated effort, with seven of its eleven players scoring in double figures.
While the loss did not affect the Celtics Eastern Conference position, the Pacers improved their season record to 21-15 with the crucial win.
The Pacers play the Wizards next on January 11th, before they commence a six-game road trip.
