Islam Makhachev reacts as Umar Nurmagomedov lands brutal jibe at ‘old fart’ Conor McGregor following ex-double champ’s ‘steroid’ remarks

Umar Nurmagomedov, the cousin of retired undefeated former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, is also undefeated in the UFC as he plies his trade in the bantamweight division. Unlike the wresting heavy Dagestani fighters, Umar has shown exceptional versatility in the striking realm.

Usman Nurmagomedov, the younger brother of Umar is the Bellator lightweight champion and is also undefeated like his cousin and older brother. Recently, Usman Nurmagomedov’s title defense over Brent Primus was turned into a No Contest after he failed a drug test by the California State Athletic Commission.

Umar Nurmagomedov claps back at Conor McGregor

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor recently accused the fighters from Dagestan as abusers of performance-enhancing drugs after Usman Nurmagomedov failed a drug test. McGregor indeed got a brutal response from Usman’s older brother in return too. It needs to be noted that Usman Nurmagomedov’s sole mistake in the process was that he failed to apply for therapeutic use exemption, and he was cleared of any wrongdoings.

McGregor again attacked the fighters from Dagestan in the comment section of Umar Nurmagomedov’s tweet.

“I often get accused of long lay offs in between my fights, but it’s not always up to me. I’m ready to fight on February 17th or March 9th, but not 1 single fighter in my division wants to fight me 🤷🏻‍♂️”, tweeted Nurmagomedov on X which got a brutal response from ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor.

“Your younger brother popped for Steroids. That’s 4 now out of your family caught on Steroids while fighting”, commented McGregor on the tweet which he has since deleted. Nurmagomedov responded aptly to the rude comment with another tweet bashing Conor McGregor.

“The one who runs away from USADA is talking. Shut your mouth old fart”, tweeted Umar Nurmagomedov who accused McGregor who had pulled out of USADA after he broke his leg against Dustin Poirier. McGregor only recently re-entered the USADA testing pool and has thus announced his comeback fight against Michael Chandler.

Islam Makhachev reacts to Umar’s response to McGregor

UFC lightweight champion and pound-for-pound king Islam Makhachev indeed took notice of the social media spat between his teammate and potential opponent Conor McGregor. Makhachev reacted to Umar Nurmagomedov’s tweet and thereby expressed his support.

Makhachev last fought at UFC 294 where he demolished Alexander Volkanovski in the first round via brutal head kick. Now, he plans to fight Justin Gaethje in June and the winner of Arman Tsarukyan vs Charles Oliveira at Madison Square Garden in November. Dana White recently announced the blockbuster fights between Oliveira and Tsarukyan for UFC 300 and Dustin Poirier and Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299.

Umar Nurmagomedov was scheduled to face off with top-ranked Cory Sandhagen at Nashville UFC but withdrew due to injury and was replaced by Rob Font. Now, he is without an opponent to face as almost all the top contenders in the division are booked to fight.

Conor McGregor is presumed to headline the PPV in the 2024 International Fight Week against Michael Chandler. There has not been an official confirmation from the UFC but is more than likely that the fight will happen.
