The King of Bros Matt Riddle had a great run during his time at WWE but later parted ways after the company merged with Endeavour. Matt Riddle, also known as Matthew Frederick Riddle made his debut in the NXT brand in 2018 but later moved to the main roster in 2020.
Riddle recently claimed that during his participation in the Money in the Bank match, he was supposed to win the contract but in the end, Vince McMahon changed the decision. Journalist Dave Meltzer debunked the claim and revealed the inside story of Riddle’s claim.
Matt Riddle’s MITB win claim gets fact-checked
Matt Riddle is currently signed to Major League Wrestling (MLW), and since he left WWE he has made a lot of appearances in different interviews. During one such interview with the Signed by Superstars podcast, Matt claimed that he was supposed to win the Money in the Bank ladder match but due to Vince McMahon’s decision, the win was given to Austin Theory.
In the Signed by Superstars podcast, Riddle said, “Wanna hear something else cool? I was supposed to win Money in the Bank but Vince (McMahon) really likes Austin Theory and literally hours before, they changed it and Austin was added in and threw me off the ladder. After I took two huge ladder bumps off the RKO and everything else and it’s like… But, I love Austin Theory and I’m happy for him. Keep killing it bro.”
However, journalist Dave Meltzer fact-checked Riddle’s confession, where he agreed that although Austin’s win was a last-minute decision by McMahon, Riddle was never the first choice to be the winner of the match.
He said, “That did happen in the sense that Vince McMahon changed it to Austin Theory, but there were several (potential winners), it was never 100% anyone. They had not figured it out until the very last minute. “Matt Riddle was absolutely one of the people, perhaps even the favorite, but it wasn’t like it was Matt Riddle and then changed to Austin Theory. It was ‘perhaps Matt Riddle'”.
Matt Riddle wants Goldberg’s match
Matt Riddle was a member of WWE for 5 years from 2018 to 2023, he had a great career and shared the stage with a lot of wrestlers. Riddle’s partnership with ‘The Viper’ Randy Orton, with whom he formed the RK-Bro tag team, is one of his career highlights. In his recent interview, the wrestler was asked about a match that he would like with any wrestler out there, to which he said he wanted to wrestle Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg.
While talking about his potential match with Goldberg he added, “You know, I don’t wanna give too much but I personally would love to work with William (Goldberg). I think me and Goldberg would be a great match. I think I could get something out of him that people haven’t seen in years and I think it’d be great for business”.
“I know it’d be really great for me, but at the end of the day, you can’t — you know, if he wants to do it, he’ll do it. If he needs to do it, he’ll do it and I mean there’s a couple places we could do that. I would imagine maybe an AEW, maybe a TNA, maybe a New Japan but if it was gonna happen, it’d probably be AEW”.
Matt also explained that he would never reject a match in AEW but his ‘top priority’ is working in Japan mostly in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). Now that Golberg’s contract with WWE has expired, despite his claim that Vince McMahon promised him a retirement match, Matt might get his wish fulfilled in the upcoming times.
Fans are cheering for Riddle, as he builds his career since departure from WWE. The 37-year-old wrestler has some exciting matches scheduled and fans cannot wait to see the former United States Champion in action again.
