Jadon Sancho joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 as arguably the hottest youngster in the game. The former City academy star had grown into his own player at the German club, proving, beyond reasonable doubt, that he was the perfect playmaker who could score goals and provide assists.
Sadly, two-and-a-half seasons down the line, Jadon Sancho has been forced to return to his old club on loan until the end of this current season after finding himself banished from the first team of Manchester United after falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.
Jadon Sancho returns to Borussia Dortmund on loan
It was only a matter of time before Sancho left United, and it was confirmed yesterday that the England international had returned to his former club on loan until the end of the season. Jadon Sancho’s United story had been brought to an end after he got banished from the first team for his refusal to apologize to manager Erik Ten Hag following his social media rant a few months ago.
The manager had openly criticized Jadon Sancho’s training levels and cited them as the reason for leaving him out completely for the game against Arsenal in September. Sancho, who was unhappy with these remarks, took to social media to address his manager, saying he had been the scapegoat for as long as he could remember and that his training levels never dropped.
Although the player quickly deleted this post, the club suspended him for disciplinary reasons and ordered him to apologize to the manager. However, Sancho’s refusal to do so led him to be banished from the first team, making him train with the academy players and even eat away from the first team as well.
After three months of not playing football, Jadon Sancho has now gotten his wish to leave the club as he completed a return to Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season, after which his future will be re-evaluated.
Why did Jadon Sancho change his Borussia Dortmund jersey number?
Jadon Sancho’s return to Borussia Dortmund has been met with the utmost respect and enthusiasm from the club, who immediately gave him their No. 10 jersey number, something he never got at United.
According to Manchester Evening News, Sancho joined United expecting to be handed the iconic No. 7 jersey, which he had previously worn at Dortmund. However, Ronaldo’s return changed everything and forced Sancho to wear the No. 25 on his back. Even after Ronaldo’s contract was terminated late in 2022, Sancho still never got to wear the iconic shirt number, which was eventually given to Mason Mount when he signed for the club last summer.
Although Jadon Sancho’s move to Dortmund is only temporary, they’ve shown how much they want him to be a part of the team, and the Englishman can do with a team that actually makes him feel wanted.
In his own words, “I can’t wait to see my teammates, go out on the pitch, and play football with a smile on my face.”
