The New York Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers last offseason. Gang Green was instantly labeled a Super Bowl contender following the trade for the four-time MVP.
The Jets had tension before trading for Rodgers, as the quarterback sparked retirement rumors several times before the trade. The signal-caller later relieved them by being vocal about his long-term commitment. However, a season-ending injury to A-Rod marred the Jets hope surrounding him. While recovering from the injury, the QB has given his retirement timeframe to the squad.
Aaron Rodgers reveals how many NFL seasons he has left
Aaron Rodgers is defying the conventional timeline for NFL quarterbacks. While age might suggest a winding down of his illustrious career, the quarterback has other plans.
A-Rod shed light on his future aspirations within the league during a recent interview on the Look Into It Podcast with Eddie Bravo. He mentioned returning to practice late in the season, while revealing his plan to play for “two or three or four more years.”
“I got back on the practice field late in the season and couldn’t get to a top speed sprinting, but really been in a good place rehab-wise, from the start, and feeling really good. I’m hopeful I can play two or three or four more years, but you need to have some good fortune in there to”, he said via YardBarker.
Aaron Rodgers is signed to play for the Jets until 2025, but it’s not totally clear if he’ll stay that long. The Jets can be a demanding team to play for, and while Rodgers talked about playing a few more years after 2023, it’s still up in the air if he’ll see out his entire contract.
Everyone will compare Aaron Rodgers to Tom Brady, who retired at a whopping 45 years old. Even though Rodgers previously said he didn’t want to play that long, his amazing performance last season with the Packers makes us wonder. He’s clearly still very talented and takes great care of his body, which could allow him to keep playing well for a while. But the big question is whether he has the mental toughness to keep battling it out year after year.
What’s the latest update on Aaron Rodgers injury?
Aaron Rodgers dished on his comeback from a torn Achilles tendon on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. Even though it’s only been five months since surgery, Rodgers sounds confident about his progress. He says he can do pretty much everything now, except running super fast.
“It feels good. I can do everything except sprint at a top speed,” he said.
The injury occurred early in the first game of the season and limited the quarterback to just four snaps. The signal-caller’s recovery process was aided by a specialized surgical procedure known as a “speed bridge” repair. The surgery, performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache, helped accelerate his rehabilitation timeline. It allowed him to return to practice relatively quickly after sustaining the injury.
Despite hopes that he might make a miraculous return later in the season, the Jets were ultimately eliminated from playoff contention, preventing any immediate comeback.
Aaron Rodgers practiced late in the season and even started a game, but he wasn’t quite able to run at full speed by the end of the year. The good news is, with no setbacks this offseason, he should be completely ready to go for the 2024 season.
