Aaron Rodgers frequently sparked the retirement rumor when he was a member of the Green Bay Packers last season. The New York Jets lingered in their move to acquire the quarterback due to his open statement about bidding adieu to professional football. However, Gang Green later took a bet to sign the four-time MVP to end their prolonged Super Bowl drought.
Rod himself too showcased commitment to the team by regularly attending the offseason training that he used to miss in Green Bay. However, a season-ending injury has come in his way of serving the Jets this season. Meanwhile, a recent rumor suggests his potential reunion with the Packers at Lambeau Field.
Aaron Rodgers eyes reunion with Packers in 2024
Aaron Rodgers served the Packers for 18 seasons and even brought a Lombardi trophy for them. He bid farewell to the team amid swirling controversies, fueled by reports of his reluctance to continue with the team and the franchise’s steadfast commitment toward grooming Jordan Love as his successor.
The potential for Rodgers’ return to Green Bay with the Jets in 2024 surfaced, per a recent report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Gang Green’s 2024 schedule includes a crucial road game against the NFC North team finishing in the same standing within their division. However, this reunion hinges on the static standings of both the AFC East and NFC North until the season’s end.
“The Jets’ 2024 schedule includes a road game at the NFC North team that finishes in the same place in their division, putting Aaron Rodgers on a potential collision course to play the Packers in Lambeau Field next season”, Schefter wrote.
Presently, both teams stand third in their divisions, keeping the prospect alive. Yet, uncertainties loom as the NFL season progresses. The Jets just embraced a disappointing loss on Black Friday and slid to a 4-7 record. The New England Patriots are only behind them with a 2-8 mark.
Meanwhile, the Packers are on an upswing, securing two consecutive victories. With a 5-6 record, they trail the second-placed NFC North team, the Minnesota Vikings, and their position may improve if the winning streak is continued.
Jets hold the line with Tim Boyle despite setbacks
After a series of bad performances and constant criticism from the NFL community, Jets coach Robert Saleh decided to rule out Zach Wilson from the starting quarterback position. The team handed the responsibility to Tim Boyle, keeping Trevor Siemian as his backup.
However, Gang Green, instead, had to digest a 13-34 loss against the Dolphins. Boyle showcased a 27-of-38 passing performance while amassing only 179 yards with one touchdown as well as two interceptions before ultimately getting benched.
Nevertheless, Saleh told reporters Saturday morning that they would give the signal-caller “another shot” to prove his caliber in the upcoming match against the Atlanta Falcons. The HC said Boyle couldn’t capitalize on few chances in the match against the Dolphins, but not everything was in the QB’s control.
“Obviously, there’s things that he could have done better, there’s things that he had no control over and I know he battled out there. We were able to get to certain calls that we were hoping to do. We were able to execute a lot of the different things that we wanted to execute, it just didn’t come to full fruition.”
With only four wins and third spot in the AFC East, Gang Green will face off against the Falcons to aim for another potential winning streak. Do you think that they will be able to do so? Tell us in the comments.
