Ryan Reynolds and his fellow Hollywood actor Rob McElhenney have brought good fortunes to Wrexham since taking over the club in November 2020. This move quickly soared the club’s reputation both on and off the pitch, with extra attention to the lower division side, causing the club to be one of the most famous clubs in England.
The takeover also led the club to the National League title last season, taking Wrexham to League Two football. After Reynolds and his fellow co-owner decided to slash ticket prices for the return leg of the Accrington game, the owner of the latter has now come out blazing hot to throw jabs at the Hollywood owners of Wrexham.
Wrexham fans applaud club’s reduction in ticket price
Wrexham made the most of Accrington Stanley’s decision to increase ticket prices by an extra £5 before their high-profile encounter yesterday. Accrington had announced before the match that it would be increasing ticket prices by £5, which caused an uproar amongst the club fans, something Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney saw as an opportunity to prove their loyalty to the club fans amid a mixed start to life in League Two.
“In response to Accrington Stanley’s decision to increase the matchday price by £5 from that previously charged at Wham Stadium for league games this season, we have decided to reduce the price of matchday tickets by £5 for the return game at the STok Cae Ras on 02/03/2024,” the club wrote on Twitter in an official statement.
The club fans quickly took to social media to praise the move, with one fan saying, “Our club showing their class as always!”
“Savage move…well done,” another one added.
“Classy response rather than charging their fans more,” a Twitter user also said of the incident.
Ryan Reynolds continues to show his grace as a club owner after welcoming Tom Brady with a classy gesture following the NFL legend’s decision to acquire Championship club Birmingham City.
However, despite appointing Wayne Rooney to lead the club’s new era into glory, the former England and Manchester United captain has found the going tough at Birmingham City.
Rival owner throws dig at Wrexham’s Ryan Reynolds
Wrexham’s decision to reduce ticket prices for the return leg of the Accrington game, which is scheduled for January, in response to Accrington Stanley increasing the price of tickets for yesterday’s encounter by £5, did not sit well with Andyh Holt, who quickly took to social media to poke fun at Ryan Reynolds.
“When costs are already high (Wrexham), the last thing football needs is stupid mistimed statements,” the club owner said on Twitter.
“It’s surprising how stupid, given a former CEO of EFL is employed by you. Let’s have a great day for all fans safely, whatever the outcome on the pitch,” he concluded.
Holt had the last laugh as his side beat Wrexham 2-0, thanks to goals from Tommy Leigh and Rosaire Longelo.
