The Kansas City Chiefs are atop the AFC West division with a 5-1 mark, thanks to their franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes for his stellar performance on the offensive line. The defending champion squad is vying for a consecutive Lombardi trophy and the quarterback is leaving no stone unturned to make that happen.
In his seven seasons in the league, Mahomes has showcased every potential to become the next GOAT of the NFL following the ex-NFL star Tom Brady. In less than a decade, he already has two Super Bowl titles and two MVPs to his name. Nevertheless, the signal-caller doesn’t want to get limited to being a great player only. Instead, he wants to get his name enrolled in the NFL ownership list as well.
Patrick Mahomes wants to own a NFL team after his retirement
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots former QB Tom Brady has invested in multiple sports teams including WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, EFL’s Birmingham City FC, Major League Pickleball’s Las Vegas Night Owls, and E1 Series’ Electric boat racing. Most recently, he purchased a minority stake in the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.
Patrick Mahomes has always wanted to reach TB12’s mark of seven Super Bowl titles. Now, he wants to follow the ex-NFL star’s footsteps by investing in an NFL team after retiring from the league. The QB assured of being a forever Chiefs fan but also mentioned the thought of having a “competitive edge” in his life.
“Eventually, when I’m done playing. I think Tom (Brady) is trying to do it right now, but that’s definitely where you want to get to. I love this sport and want to give back in any way possible. When I’m done playing, obviously I’ll be a Chiefs fan, but at the same time I want to have that competitive edge I’ve always had my entire life,” he said via Sports Illustrated.
Pat went on to insist that he can’t have ownership in any NFL team till he remains an active player. However, he is reaching out to other sports to grab ownership stake and has already purchased stakes in Kansas City Royals of MLB, Sporting Kansas City of MLS, and the Kansas City Current of NWSL.
“I’m always looking around. I can’t do it in the NFL while I’m playing, so I’m always looking around at other sports. It’s hard to get in all sports, NBA, and all that different type of stuff, but I’m always keeping my ears open. If they give me the opportunity, I’m going to jump at it.”
The two-time MVP has already earned a hefty sum of $136,254,472 to date in seven seasons in the league and is set to earn $59,350,000 this season. With a net worth of $70 million and having some big endorsement deals in his bag, investing in multiple sports teams is going to be a piece of cake for the Chiefs star.
Patrick Mahomes joins Travis Kelce to own a F1 team
Mahomes, along with the Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, have recently joined hands with Otro Capital to purchase a stake at Alpine F1 Team which also has actor Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, Anthony Joshua, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Juan Mata, RedBird Capital Partners, and Maximum Effort Investments in the ownership role.
Following the deal, the signal-caller said he had always been passionate about sports. He also cited excitement in joining hands with the investment group alongside his fellow teammate.
“I’ve always had a passion for all sports. The opportunity to lead an investor group with Travis in Alpine F1 alongside Otro Capital was one I couldn’t pass up. It’s an exciting time for the sport and this is an opportunity to bring our shared values to the world stage. I’m looking forward to being a part of its growth.”
Otro Capital confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday while saying they hope that the QB and TE duo would boost the F1 team by combining top-class expertise across different areas of the sports ecosystem and driving the team to reach a world of new fans.
