With the imminent deal for Romeo Lavia, Chelsea has been the busiest English club since the start of last season when American businessman Todd Boehly signed a deal to buy the club. By the end of January 2023, Chelsea had signed 18 players, leaving them with a bloated squad and a need to expand the dressing room due to the number of players at the club.
Fast forward to this summer, Chelsea’s summer business has been brilliant. Under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, the Premier League giants have parted ways with several first-team players like Kovacic, Kante, Mount, Havertz, Aubameyang, Azpilicueta, and Pulisic. This leaves them in an excellent position to sign new players that fit into the new manager’s system.
Chelsea is close to signing Romeo Lavia for £50M
After offloading fringe players for the most part of the summer transfer window, Chelsea are now back in business, snapping up essential players for the squad in a bid to challenge City and Arsenal for the Premier League title this season. Chelsea are looking to strengthen their midfield, with Romeo Lavia under the club’s radar, and reports are suggesting the Blues may complete a deal to bring the Belgian to Stamford Bridge this week.

Liverpool had been in negotiations with Southampton for the young midfielder for weeks and couldn’t match the Saints’ valuation of the player. Chelsea has now swooped in to pay up to £50 million for a player Southampton invested £12 million in last summer.
According to reports, despite submitting a new £60 million bid for the player, Romeo Lavia has opted to play for Chelsea instead of Liverpool, leaving Liverpool to rue their inability to sign their recent midfield targets. This will be a new reason to worry for Liverpool, as they’re no longer the team that attracts the best players in the world.
Details on Moises Caicedo’s £115M contract
After a protracted transfer saga that involved Chelsea, Liverpool, and Brighton, the former finally announced the signing of Moises Caicedo for a British record fee of £115 million yesterday. The Ecuadorian midfielder had the chance to sign for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s side were the first to pay Brighton’s demands for the player. However, Caicedo instructed his team to prioritize a move to Chelsea over Liverpool.
The former Brighton midfielder will now form a midfield partnership with fellow South American Enzo Fernandes, whom Chelsea also paid a premium fee of £106 million to sign from Benfica. If Chelsea manage to add Romeo Lavia to their squad, they will have the most expensive midfield the Premier League has ever seen.
