Lionel Messi is one of football’s most influential players, and his recent move to the MLS has reinstated the matter. The Argentine was thought to feel at home in Barcelona, and nobody really expected him to move when he did, but contract and financial issues at Barca led him out of the club, and the playmaker went on to sign a two-year deal with PSG, spending two ill-advised years in France where he was made a scapegoat for their European failures.
The World Cup provided a much-needed break for Messi, and he put his sweat and blood into winning the only trophy the Argentine had never won. After the World Cup, it became evident that Messi wouldn’t stay at PSG beyond that season, and ultimately, he failed to renew his contract, prompting a move to the MLS a month later.
Lionel Messi’s Impact on MLS Season Pass
Lionel Messi has given the MLS the attention the league has missed since the era of David Beckham. The signing of Messi has positively impacted Inter Miami and the MLS, bringing more attention to the league than ever seen.
Many wondered initially why Messi chose Inter Miami despite his bumper contract offer from Saudi Arabia. However, it’s been revealed later that Adidas and Apple played a huge role in bringing the Argentine to the MLS.
According to reports, Messi will earn a percentage on every of his shirt sold in the United States. As of August 3, Adidas confirmed that all available Lionel Messi jerseys had been sold out in the first 24 hours of sales, with the Argentine surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of the most jersey sold in 24 hours, which the Portuguese set when he returned to Manchester United in 2021.
Lionel Messi has caused a surge in the MLS season pass by Apple as well, and the Argentine is also set to earn a cut from these subscriptions due to his deal with the American company. Subscriptions have doubled since Messi was announced as a new Inter Miami player, and the numbers continue to rise as the World Cup winner continues to score braces after braces for his new club.
The Messi Effect is real! 🐐 Subscribers to #MLSSeasonPass on @AppleTV have more than doubled since Messi joined @InterMiamiCF. Also, Spanish language viewership on #MLSSeasonPass on @AppleTV has surpassed over 50% for Messi matches and continues to rise. How exciting for a truly…
