After declaring to finish 2nd in WCC, Charles Leclerc backs claims with update on new enhancements on Ferrari SF23

At the onset of the 2022 season, word around the paddock was that fans were in for a Ferrari-Red Bull rivalry, with Ferrari being the favorites for the season. However, after multiple strategy for miscalculations, Charles Leclerc, the Monegasque’s hopes for his first F1 title were shattered.

In 2023, the season has been worse than 2022, with the team currently 4th in the constructors standings. However, after the season break, Leclerc has revealed Ferrari’s new goals for the season.

Charles Leclerc targets 2nd position in WCC

Currently, Ferrari are 5 points behind Aston Martin and 51 points behind Mercedes. While Red Bull was the target at the start of the season, a reality check has set in at the team after Red Bull’s dominance so far in 2023.

Accordingly, Charles Leclerc has recently revealed the new target for Ferrari in 2023, which is to snatch P2 in the Constructors’ championship and earn the title of “best of the rest.”

Speaking on the new target and their rivals this season, Leclerc said “I think a realistic target, first of all, should be to try and be second in the Constructors’, which is going to be a challenge. McLaren now is back in the fight; Mercedes is always strong.”

On Aston Martin, he said they have not been as much of a challenge recently. He also revealed updated about development to their 2023 challenger.

Charles Leclerc provides update on upgrades to be done to Ferrari SF23

Ferrari’s goal for 2nd in the Constructors’ championship is not unsubstantiated: Charles Leclerc has spoken about upgrades to the SF23 that Ferrari are hopeful about.

While he did not elaborate on what exactly these upgrades were expected to be, he seemed hopeful that it would help them in their challenge for P2 in the Constructors’ championship.

With both Carlos and Charles performing at similar levels, snatching P3 from Aston Martin is not unrealistic considering that the team is largely reliant on Alonso’s performances. However, given Lewis’ recent form and the strong line-up at Mercedes, Ferrari could face challenges in dealing with them on track.

On the other hand, though Mclaren have shown significant signs of improvement, it is too early to determine whether they are in this fight with Ferrari, as they are still 88 points behind them in the championship.
