Sergio Perez is Red Bull’s current second driver. He got into the Red Bull family after being thrown to the sidelines by Racing Point for the 2021 season. Being the first driver at Red Bull who didn’t come from their junior programme, Sergio has been praised a lot for his mature driving style and his performance for Red Bull. Well, up until now, at least.
The 33-year-old Mexican is stuck in a streak of poor performances. Sergio had not qualified in Q3 five straight times. He has put in a lot of work this Sunday by claiming P3 in Hungary after qualifying for P9.
However, ex-F1 driver Ralf Schumacher feels that Sergio Perez could well be on his way out of the team, as he states that Red Bull is going to be all set to change their driver next season.
Ralf Schumacher shockingly claims Sergio Perez is not mentally stable enough
Ralf Schumacher is the younger brother of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher. Ralph didn’t find as much success as his legend of a brother in the sport; however, they are the only siblings to each win a race.
Ralf left the sport in 2007 due to internal pressure and is now working as a commentator at Sky Sports Media.
The ex-F1 driver feels that Sergio Perez’s Red Bull days are numbered. He went to support Sergio by saying Sergio’s problem has been with consistency as he has had too many fluctuations during the sessions.
Ralf didn’t stop there; he said it’s unfair to Sergio if the pressure is increased on him with teams coming closer and closer. He also added that Red Bull can’t afford a slower driver if compared to Max, and he thinks that the team is giving false hope to the Mexican about the next year and is going to replace him.
“The team is logically trying to make Perez believe that his job is not in jeopardy, but I don’t think he will still be driving for Red Bull next year.”
He isn’t the only one who thinks Sergio Perez didn’t do an exceptional job. McLaren star driver Lando Norris shares the same opinion too, which was reflected in his reaction in a post-race interview.
Lando Norris mocks Perez’s award
Lando Norris crossed the line in P2 after an amazing drive from the McLaren driver. But the driver of the day “prize” was given to Red Bull driver Sergio Perez for his overtaking and performance. Sergio started the race in P9 and overtook his way through the grid to finish in P3, making it a Red Bull double podium. This came as a surprise to Lando.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Norris was told that the “prize” had gone to Perez, and it was clear from the Briton’s reply that he disagreed. “He got Driver of the Day? What the hell!” to which the interviewer responded, “You could have worked harder.”
Norris had a particularly sharp answer to that too: “Then I need a quicker car. Yeah, it’s a wonderful day, a wonderful day.”
