The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been successful in making the transition from the NFL GOAT Tom Brady to new starter Baker Mayfield. After having an intense competition with Kyle Trask, the quarterback is leaving no stone unturned to make another potential Super Bowl run for Tampa Bay this year.
The Bucs are now 3-1 after securing a 26-9 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Though the team is having good times with recent victories, their signal-caller is getting embroiled in off-field controversies, and the recent one is quite embarrassing as a player who represents the whole franchise.
Baker Mayfield trends after unfiltered comment caught on mic
In a clip posted by a user on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Mayfield was caught delivering an NSFW comment during their week 4 matchup against the Saints.
“My d*ck got hard as soon as I saw him running in the motion back,” the signal-caller could be heard telling his wide receiver Chris Godwin who was wearing a microphone at the time.
Setting aside the controversial incident, the dual-threat quarterback solidified his position as Tampa Bay’s long-time QB1 by completing 25 of 32 passes for 246 yards, three touchdown passes, and one interception on the way to Tampa Bay’s victory over New Orleans.
It marked the second time the Bucs’ dual-threat quarterback drew attention for his on-field comments. In their Week 1 match against the Minnesota Vikings, he said, ‘That’s game, boys, now we have to group hug in the showers tonight.’ While these conversations may be considered casual banter, the veteran’s unfiltered comments are sure to continue making headlines.
Mayfield’s rumored jab at Browns debunked
Besides battling with Trask for the starting job, one of the greatest impediments on the way of Baker was to fill Brady’s void. TB12 turned himself into a brand after landing in Tampa Bay. Hence, critics were after Mayfield from week 1 of the 2023 season.
The 28-year-old didn’t let his doubters have a spicy discussion about his failure by showcasing performance like a franchise quarterback. Nevertheless, besides this setback, the signal-caller got involved in another ugly scenario when a social media post circulated saying he took a dig at his former team, the Cleveland Browns after securing a win in week 4.
The post quickly went viral, and as usual, the QB found himself facing a lot of backlash from the netizens. However, Greg Auman of Fox Sports later smashed the rumor saying Mayfield didn’t make any such comment.
The Bucs star is very frank while having conversations with others, and his recent two on-field comments are quick examples of this behavior. It is not wrong to be candid, but due to this behavior, fans seemingly believe anything rumored about him.
