Lionel Messi to reunite with Luis Suarez at Inter Miami
The dream of a reunion between Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez has become a reality as Inter Miami has reached an agreement to sign the Uruguayan forward. This will bring the former Barcelona teammates back together on the same team.
According to ESPN, an agreement for a one-year contract with an option for an additional season has been reached and is close to being finalized. This deal will see Suarez leave Porto Alegre, where he was on a two-year contract, due to the physical challenges of top-level football in South America.
Suarez and Messi forged a strong friendship and a formidable on-field partnership during their six seasons together at Barcelona, but Suarez was eventually considered surplus to requirements and moved on. He went on to help Atletico Madrid secure a La Liga title. Following his successful return to his first club, Nacional, and after winning the Uruguayan title, Suarez moved on to Brazil before reuniting with Messi at Inter Miami.
The possibility of a reunion with his former Barcelona teammates, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba had been a topic of discussion, and now it seems that the move to Inter Miami is just a formality that will soon be completed, allowing Suarez to rejoin his old friend Messi and potentially recapture some of the magic they once had together at Barcelona.
Luis Suarez urged Lionel Messi to go for ninth Ballon d’Or
Lionel Messi has recently won the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time in his career, the most by any footballer alive. In a fierce battle with Erling Haaland of Manchester City and Kylian Mbappe of PSG, Messi emerged victorious at 36 due majorly to his World Cup exploits for Argentina.
Messi celebrated his Ballon d’Or win on Instagram, expressing his gratitude to everyone who supported him and played a part in his success. Among the well-wishers was his former Barcelona teammate, Suarez, who left a comment on the post. In his comment, Suarez encouraged Messi not to rest on his laurels and to aim for even more success in the future.
“How great you are, fatty! Now work hard to get 9th. Have fun because you deserve it so much,” Messi wrote.
However, Messi, in his Ballon d’Or acceptance speech, had already made it clear that his eighth Ballon d’Or might be his last as he had already stopped thinking about it for a while.
“I stopped thinking about the Ballon d’Or. I think it’s my last Ballon d’Or. And I’m happy to have achieved everything I’ve achieved and to be the only player with eight Ballons d’Or. And that’s all,” he said.
