After losing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to EPL rivals Chelsea, Liverpool set to sign Wataru Endo for $18M

If the reports are true, Stuttgart’s Wataru Endo may be on his way to England. One of the most obvious things in the Premier League right now is the fact that Liverpool needs new signings to avert an embarrassing slide down the table like the one they suffered last campaign.

Thanks to their late form, Liverpool may have narrowly missed out on the top-four race last season, but it was a disappointing campaign nonetheless. After losing several first-team players to other clubs this summer, Liverpool may be doomed to another struggling season, considering their lack of precision on the transfer market.

Liverpool reportedly sign Wataru Endo for $18M

No team has probably suffered such a huge fall from grace in the Premier League like Liverpool. The Merseyside club lost the Premier League title to Manchester City in 2022 just by a point, with many mooting them to lift the title in 2023, something they failed to do. Liverpool finished fifth on the table, behind Newcastle, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

Liverpool’s summer hasn’t been better either. Jurgen Klopp’s side has only managed to sign Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton and RB Leipzig, respectively. A lot of fans have been frustrated with the club’s lack of movement in the transfer window, and recent reports that the team may have just snapped up Stuttgart’s captain Wataru Endo for $18 million could raise more eyebrows.

Liverpool needs a solid defensive midfielder after moving Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League. Unfortunately, after coming very close to signing, Klopp has missed out on two of the best DMs in the Premier League, Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo. Settling for a relatively unknown Japanese player as the club’s new DM could be a massive gamble, the one a club as big as Liverpool probably should not be taking.

Jamie Carragher has labeled his former club as a ‘joke’ due to their lack of activity in the transfer window.

Details on Moises Caicdedo and Romeo Lavia deals

Brighton accepted a colossal bid of £115 million from Liverpool a few days ago, granting the club permission to discuss personal terms with Moises Caicedo. However, things took a quick turn as the player informed Liverpool he only wanted to sign for Chelsea, reviving the London club’s hopes of landing their dream player this transfer window.

As one would expect, Chelsea matched the bid and unveiled Caicedo on Monday as the new most expensive player in the Premier League.

Liverpool also missed out on Romeo Lavia, who chose Chelsea after Liverpool had failed to match Southampton’s valuation of the player, leaving negotiations to drag on for months. This is embarrassing for a club of Liverpool’s size, just as Carragher pointed out.
