Overcoming heavy rain at the start and end of the race, Red Bull Racing star Max Verstappen secured a record-levelling ninth-successive Formula 1 victory of the season in the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort on Sunday. With this win, he is just one race away from overtaking Sebastian Vettel’s record of nine straight wins back in 2013.
This record-leveling win could not have come at a better time for Verstappen as he raced through the track amid heavy support from the home country crowd and appreciation on the grid. Recently, Lando Norris too, has spoken highly of Max and his skill level publicly.
McLaren driver Lando Norris calls Max Verstappen ‘impossible’ to defeat
Lando Norris spoke about Max Verstappen’s dominance in Formula 1. Verstappen has been winning races by a large margin, sometimes by over 20 seconds. Norris has seen this firsthand, as he was once 28 seconds behind Verstappen in a race. However, Norris believes that even if Max is winning, the onlookers must be glad that they are witnessing history as he praised Verstappen’s driving skills.
When asked if he could beat Verstappen or match his pace, Norris replied that he would like to believe so, but no driver can say for sure because of Verstappen’s excellent skills. Norris said that he thinks he can beat Verstappen, but he is not sure because Verstappen is a very talented driver.
According to sportskeeda, he said, “I don’t think anyone, ever, will just be able to go ‘Yeah, I can easily beat Max’. It’s impossible,” he stated.
“I think Max is one of the best drivers you’ll ever see in Formula 1,” Norris added.
Norris further stated that one should be happy to see Verstappen making history, “Even when he’s winning, be happy that you’re witnessing what he’s able to achieve,”
Max Verstappen earns his ninth consecutive F1 wins with Dutch GP
The Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort was a thrilling event, marked by heavy rain and a late red flag. Amidst all this action, it was Max Verstappen who emerged victorious, securing his ninth consecutive win. It was a fitting victory for Verstappen, who was competing on his home turf, and his performance was truly impressive. Although Fernando Alonso put up a strong fight, it was ultimately Verstappen who came out on top, extending his championship lead by a staggering 138 points. All in all, it was a remarkable performance by Verstappen and a race that will be remembered for years to come.
“It’s incredible,” the Red Bull driver said in parc ferme. “Today they didn’t make it easy for us with the weather to make the right calls all the time, but I’m incredibly proud. I’ve already had goosebumps from when they played the national anthem before the start and even with all the bad weather and the rain, the fans were still going at it – it was an incredible atmosphere.”
When asked about the possibility of becoming the sole record holder for most consecutive wins at the upcoming Italian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen said that he would think about it next week. He wanted to enjoy the current race weekend first, as it was always tough and the pressure was on to perform. He was very happy to win the race and was looking forward to the next challenge.
