Dominik Mysterio has been having a pretty good run in WWE NXT, where he made an appearance a month ago along with his Judgement Day buddies. In his short run in WWE’s developmental brand, ‘Dirty’ Dom has been up against some of NXT’s best and was scheduled to defend his title against Mustafa Ali at No Mercy. In light of Ali’s recent firing, plans changed for the Judgement Day member too.
Dominik Mysterio and the Judgement Day were among the most prominent superstars from the main roster to make an appearance on NXT. Now it looks like Dominik is here to stay as he defeated Wes Lee and captured the NXT North American Championship.
Dominik Mysterio to defend the North American Championship vs Trick Williams at NXT No Mercy
Dominik Mysterio was initially supposed to put his championship on the line against Mustafa Ali at NXT No Mercy on September 30. However, Ali was one of the many victims of the post-merger layoffs of WWE and Endeavor, which saw several prominent talent and backstage staff being released from the company.
Left without an opponent to face at the upcoming event, it looked like Dom’s match would end up getting cancelled. However, Shawn Michaels had other plans, as he held a Triple Threat match between Axiom, Tyler Bate and Dragon Lee to determine a contender for the North American Championship. Trick Williams was able to get himself into the match by talking to the Hall of Famer, thus it became a Fatal Four-Way match.
After an incredible match, Trick Williams managed to get the win by pinning Axiom and thus, punched his ticket to No Mercy where he will be facing ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio for his championship title. It’s definitely going to be a great match between the Judgement Day member and Carmelo Hayes’ best friend, who faced off against Mysterio last week in a singles match.
Mustafa Ali reacts to Dominik Mysterio vs Trick Williams at NXT No Mercy
Mustafa Ali was without a doubt, one of WWE’s most talented but underutilized superstars. Fans have been rallying behind the 37-year-old superstar for a long time and just when it looked like he was finally getting a push in his career, he fell victim of the post-merger layoffs. Although Mustafa Ali’s release upset a lot of his fans, it looks like he holds no grudge against WWE and supported his replacement at NXT No Mercy.
Prior to his unexpected release, Ali was supposed to face Dominik Mysterio at NXT No Mercy. But following his release, Trick Williams managed to earn his way to the event to face the North American Champion on NXT this week. Mustafa Ali took to X to congratulate his former coworker and said that he deserved the opportunity.
“good for trick, deserves it”, he wrote.
Although fans are upset with Ali’s departure from the company, they are looking forward to his future endeavors following his exit. We wish Mustafa Ali the best and hope that he thrives in whichever promotion he chooses to join.
