Following a record-breaking season of leading the league with 1,653 yards rushing and 2,053 yards from scrimmage, Josh Jacobs was apparently all set with his drafted team, the Las Vegas Raiders. However, after the team exercised the franchise tag on him, the relationship between both sides was seemingly hanging in the air.
After a prolonged waiting period, the Raiders broke their silence by declaring their reunion with Jacob recently. After allowing him a new and fresh start in Las Vegas, the team also welcomed him by offering a new jersey number that the player recently revealed.
Josh Jacobs reveals the new number on his Raiders jersey
The running back spent the first four seasons of his NFL career wearing No. 28. Forgetting all the stuff of the turmoil-filled offseason, the Raiders apparently embraced him like a rookie with a new contract and new jersey number before the regular season.
The Las Vegas Raiders team posted a little video to X, formerly known as Twitter, announcing that their franchise player will don No. 8, which he wore on his Alabama uniform toward the end of his collegiate career.

The Raiders’ “New number, same colors” statement on the video somehow hinted at their brand-new relationship with their veteran player and their intention to make his new trip unforgettable.
What is the Raiders contract with Josh Jacobs? Explained
Jacobs and the Raiders reached an agreement on a one-year contract worth up to $12 million, which includes a base salary of $11.8 million and potential bonus payments of an additional $200,000. The 25-year-old was given a $10.1 million franchise tag by the Raiders in March following his four seasons with the team.
The organization and the Alabama product were still in contact and believed a quick arrangement could be reached. However, neither side could come to an agreement, and the deadline passed without a resolution, forcing the player to miss training camp.
As he was not then bound by a contract with the Raiders, Jacobs was not additionally penalized for missing training camp. Jacob’s tremendous season with them clearly required a deal, and the team finally gave in and did it. He ended with 340 carries for 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns along with 53 receptions for 400 yards.
In a division dominated by the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers, and Kansas City Chiefs, the Raiders are struggling to set their legacy. As a result, having a tough offense has become essential for them to compete well at the divisional level. Jacob is now anticipated to provide them with some relief in the lineup while fiercely contending against Kadarlus Toney, Austin Ekeler, and Javonte Williams, running backs in his division.
