Max Verstappen, the man who has utterly dominated the sport of Formula 1 till the summer break in 2023, is also looking forward to keeping his current form for the rest of the season too. The Red Bull prodigy, who is attempting to win his third consecutive world championship, has a 125-point advantage over his teammate Sergio Perez in the drivers’ standings after winning 10 of the first 12 races, including the previous eight straight.
Verstappen’s most recent victory marked his eighth win in a row, which occurred in Belgium over the weekend when he overcame a pre-race gearbox penalty to move up from sixth place. His teammate Perez, meanwhile, put his dry spell behind him to finish second and record his best finish since Miami seven races ago. Sergio has recently publicly appreciated Max and his season so far in an interview with the F1 media house.
Sergio Perez applauds Max Verstappen’s dominant season
Sergio Perez has been in the news lately due to his poor performance this season and the pressure built up on him due to the signing of Daniel Riccardo at Alpha Tauri, replacing Nyck De Veris. Sergio was quick to shut down all the gossip with his splendid performances over the weekend in Hungary and Spa consecutively.
But surely his season can’t be compared to his teammate’s, and he knows this too. In a post-race interview, he was caught praising his teammate and his performance during the season.
In the interview, the Mexican racer had this to say about the Dutchman while talking about his performance: “There’s nothing to be taken away from Max, certainly. He did a tremendous a race, and he’s done a tremendous season. he’s done a tremendous job, he’s very talented, around his team they’re getting the maximum out of the weekends, weekend after weekend, which is really impressive.”
Perez takes his sixth podium of the season
Sergio Perez took the third position in Friday’s qualifying. And fortunately for the driver, his teammate, who was the polesitter, faces a five-place grid penalty for exceeding the number of gearbox changes in a season. resulting in him being bumped up to P2 for Sunday.
Sergio had a great reaction time at lights out, and he was able to overtake the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc in the earlier stages of the race with ease. He was in P1 for a good chunk of the race but was passed by his teammate Max Verstappen, who was on fire the whole race; he overtook him on his way up from the sixth position. Max finished the race in P1 and P2, respectively, making it a Red Bull 1-2 finish.
After coming in second to his outstanding Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen in the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday, Sergio Perez declared his intention to remain on the Formula One podium for the remainder of the season. The Mexican’s second position stopped a string of disappointing finishes and was his best finish since Miami in May when he finished second. After 12 of 22 races, Perez is second in the championship overall but is now 125 points behind Verstappen, who has won the last eight.
In a recent interview, he said “I really look forward to not leaving the podium anymore from now until the end of the year. It’s been a bit of a rough patch, but I think we overcome and today we managed to score great points for the team,”
