Alejandro Garnacho’s development has been nothing short of incredible. Two years ago, the young Argentine was playing youth football, which was the norm, as he was only 17. He instantly hit the news when he managed to score a solo goal against Everton in the FA Youth Cup and he has been developing well under Erik Ten Hag ever since.
Alejandro Garnacho scored another brace in United’s 3-0 win over West Ham yesterday, and the celebration of his first goal quickly went viral. This came just a few days after compatriot Angel Di Maria urged him to do more of Lionel Messi’s celebration than Cristiano Ronaldo’s, with the 19-year-old giving the veteran the perfect response.
Alejandro Garnacho gives befitting reply to Angel Di Maria and West Ham
Anyone who’s familiar with Garnacho knows he’s a die-hard Cristiano Ronaldo fan. The young Argentine came through the ranks at United, which coincided with Ronaldo’s second spell at the club. Even before Ronaldo’s arrival for the second time, Garnacho had been doing his celebrations whenever he scored for the youth team, so it was a dream come true to learn from his idol from a very close range.
Garnacho’s love for Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t helped his dreams to represent Argentina since he chose the World Champions over Spain. Messi and Ronaldo are eternal rivals, and there’s not a single soul in the country with love for the former Juventus star, so Garnacho has always been seen as a rebel.
Lionel Messi even unfollowed the youngster on Instagram for admitting Cristiano Ronaldo is the GOAT, and after several public displays of affection for Ronaldo, former United star Di Maria explained how Garnacho should emulate Lionel Messi more.
However, Garnacho seemed to kill two birds with one stone when he scored against West Ham yesterday. The 19-year-old did an old Cristiano Ronaldo celebration by sitting on the advertising board to celebrate his goal.
This was also the perfect way to mock Mohamed Kudus and West Ham after the Ghanian star did the same celebration when he scored against Manchester United in the reverse leg.
Man Utd youngster’s rapid growth under Erik Ten Hag
United are fond of finding a jewel from their youth team every now and then, and it was Alejandro Garnacho who made it through the ranks last season. After making his debut against Limassol in the Europa League under Ten Hag, Garnacho has been a mainstay in the senior team, becoming an important part of the setup.
Alejandro Garnacho’s first goal for the club came against Real Sociedad in the Europa League, from Cristiano Ronaldo’s assist. The 19-year-old celebrated the goal by copying his idol after seeking his permission to do the celebration.
He ended the season with six goals and six assists in all competitions, with three of those goals coming in the Premier League, including the last-minute goal against Fulham.
Alejandro Garnacho has gone from strength to strength this season, scoring a potential Goal of the Season contender against Everton earlier this season. Garnacho celebrated the goal with Ronaldo’s famous “Siuuu” celebration.
So far this season, Garnacho has scored seven goals and assisted two times in all competitions, with five coming in the Premier League. He netted a brace against West Ham yesterday to help United move to sixth in the table.
