Alex Pereira’s coach Glover Teixeira accepts Magomed Ankalaev title shot demand at UFC 300: “See u soon”

Magomed Ankalaev announced his title shot credentials in style with a second-round TKO victory over Johnny Walker in the main event of UFC Vegas 84, the first UFC event of 2024. After the victory, Ankalaev urged the UFC to book a title shot for him in his octagon interview with Michael Bisping.

Alex Pereira is the current champion of the division after a spectacular 2nd round TKO victory over Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295. Pereira is coached by former light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira who recently had a social media interaction with Ankalaev after UFC Vegas 84.

Magomed Ankalaev sends stern warning to Alex Pereira

Magomed Ankalaev already made his intentions clear in his Octagon interview and he further doubled down on it at the post-fight press conference of UFC Vegas 84. Ankalaev had a message for Glover Teixeira and his pupil at the press conference.

“Don’t waste your time trying to teach your student how to wrestle or grapple. He’s not gonna need it. I’m gonna come out there, I’m gonna stand across from him”, said Ankalaev providing a heads-up to Teixeira as he hinted that he would not grapple with Pereira. He clarified his words with his recent performance against Johnny Walker as the blueprint for his potential fight with Pereira.

“I know that he’s been knocked out before as a middleweight, so imagine what’s gonna happen if I meet him in light heavyweight.”, Ankalaev further added referencing Pereira’s brutal knockout loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 287 in their rematch of UFC 281. The Russian fighter predicts that a similar future will await Pereira when they fight.

“Trust me, he’s not gonna feel comfortable there.”, Ankalaev sternly added citing that he is the most difficult fighter to face in the light heavyweight division. Pereira has only fought twice at light heavyweight. After his debut victory against former Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291 via split decision, he went on to claim the vacant title at UFC 295.

Glover Teixeira accepts Magomed Ankalaev

Magomed Ankalaev’s spectacular victory at UFC Vegas 84 did not go unnoticed by Glover Teixeira as he tweeted on X congratulating Ankalave. “Great knockout. We will see u soon. #UFCFightNight”, was the tweet of Teixeira.

Teixeira’s tweet did not go unnoticed by Ankalaev as well as he commented on it. “Thank you Champ you don’t have to wait too long. I’m ready for your guy.”, was what Ankalaev commented on the tweet. He respectfully called Teixeira a champion as he was the former champion and stated that he would be soon ready to face Pereira.

Teixeira and Ankalaev were once rumored to fight at UFC 282 but Teixeira did not accept Ankalaev on short notice for the vacant light heavyweight title after his initial opponent Jiri Prochazka injured his shoulder and vacated the title. Ankalaev went on to fight Jan Blachowicz at UFC 282 but the fight ended in a split draw and left the UFC without a champion at light heavyweight.

This forced the UFC to book another fight for the vacant title at UFC 283; this time between Teixeira and Jamahal Hill. Hill won the fight via unanimous decision and Teixeira retired after the loss and stated his intention to concentrate fully on the career of Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira.
