Alexander Volkanovski claims Aljamain Sterling needs to KO Max Holloway for title shot at 145 but UFC fans back ‘Blessed’ to finish ‘Funk Master’

Alexander Volkanovsi recently appeared on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, where he discussed a wide variety of topics. The Australian, who last fought at UFC 294 in a TKO loss to Islam Makhachev, will be headlining UFC 298 against Ilia Topuria.

Now, with Aljamain Sterling, the former bantamweight champion, moving up in weight, Volkanovski had words about the weight class change. Sterling lost the bantamweight title to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292

Alexander Volkanovski talks on Sterling vs Max bout

Former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling recently announced his move to the featherweight division. Sterling is rumored to fight former featherweight champion Max Holloway on his featherweight debut. Alexander Volkanovski was asked about the move by Ariel Helwani and whether it was the right move.

“He’s a good fighter. I can see what he’s doing. Okay, he knows. He’s like, ‘Alright, I want a title fight anytime.’ So, look, he takes out Max. There you go, you know what I mean? He’s next. It’s that simple, and he knows that,” said Volkanovski about Sterling’s move. Volkanovsi believes that Sterling knows that the easiest path to a title shot is through Holloway.

The Australian respects Sterling’s ambitious move to featherweight: “I’m sure he knows it’s a tough fight, but he just looks at it as, ‘That’s how I get to the title, right?’ And good on him. You got to respect that.” Before losing the bantamweight title to O’Malley, Sterling was already planning to move up in weight.

However, after losing the belt, he looked for a rematch, which was not given to him by the UFC. On the other hand, O’Malley got his wish and will defend the title in a rematch against Marlon Vera at UFC 299 in Miami, Florida.

UFC fans claim Max Holloways will beat Aljamain Sterling

Max Holloway is one of the most beloved fighters in the UFC. He has never been knocked down in his UFC career, even after accumulating damages from his fights with Dustin Poirier and Alexander Volkanovski. Aljamain Sterling is rumored to match up with Holloway, who in turn is targeting a lightweight bout with Justin Gaethje.

Alexander Volkanovski gave props to Sterling for the move up in weight against Holloway. However, fight fans were not like Volkanovski as they bashed Sterling. “Max Holloway would make Aljo wish he didn’t start MMA,” one fan commented, insinuating that Sterling may suffer a beating Calvin Kattar suffered at the hands of Holloway.

“The last thing to happen on earth is Max getting kod by aljo 😂”, trolled another fan. The fans do not think that Aljamain Sterling has the skillset to defeat Max Holloway, who is known to have a granite chin. Sterling is also not known for his power but he has impeccable MMA grappling skills.

“Max starches aljo”, commented yet another fan. It seems like the fan believes that it will be a quick night in the office for Holloway if he faces Sterling. Holloway recently knocked out Chan Sung Jung, a.k.a. The Korean Zombie, in his most recent bout at UFC Singapore. The fan thinks that something similar could happen more quickly this time. UFC Singapore was a retirement fight of Jung.
