Amad Diallo’s career so far has been a rollercoaster, which is quite normal for a player of his age and status. He became one of the most expensive young players Manchester United ever signed when the club splashed around €30 million on an untested 19-year-old who had only started playing first-team football a few years prior. This decision shocked the world, but United were seemingly paying for his potential.
Now he’s 21 and has yet to break into the first team with regular minutes. He had spent loan stints at Rangers and Sunderland, the latter coming last season, when he had a fantastic time in the Championship. Amad Diallo found himself on the wrong side of the headlines yesterday for his strange decision regarding his social media accounts.
Amad Diallo explains decision to delete all references to Man Utd on social media
News broke out yesterday that Amad Diallo had deleted everything related to Manchester United from his social media accounts. The report turned out to be far-fetched, as this was not only about Manchester United; the youngster deactivated his social media accounts altogether without any prior statement or explanation, leading fans to speculate things had gone sour between him and United.
Fortunately, he quickly came out to defend his decision and provide an explanation to people who took the whole thing out of context. “I’ve deactivated my social media for a month just to focus on Ramadan,” the 21-year-old winger explained. “Stop the hatred; there’s nothing wrong with what I did. It’s the holy month for me, and social media is a place where there are bad things to see during fasting,” the youngster added, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
The timing of his explanation was perfect, as people had made a mess of the situation, claiming his unhappiness with Erik Ten Hag’s reluctance to play him in games had led to the meltdown. Many even thought he was trying to pull another Jadon Sancho-like situation by forcing his way out of the club. Still, his explanation proved it was for a more personal reason than people had speculated earlier.
Amad Diallo’s unimpressive stint at Man Utd continues
Amad Diallo may have provided an explanation that proved nothing was wrong with his relationship with Manchester United, but there’s no denying that he’s far from happy at the club. Diallo has been on United’s books since 2021 but has found regular minutes hard to come by at the club. It’s been even harder under Erik Ten Hag; despite Diallo’s readiness to play, the Dutchman always favours giving other players more time to impress than the Ivorian.
To make matters worse, Diallo had an impressive loan stint at Sunderland last season, where he played over 40 games and scored more than 15 goals in all competitions. The Championship club wanted to take him on another loan, but Erik Ten Hag blocked the move, claiming Amad Diallo would be given more minutes to prove himself this season. Sadly, these opportunities haven’t come, and there are less than three months until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old may force his way out of the club to temporarily play elsewhere next season if his situation doesn’t improve. Ten Hag’s preference to play another youngster, Omari Forson, ahead of Diallo has also not gone well with the former Atalanta youngster, with fans also calling for Ten Hag to give Amad Diallo a chance to impress.
