Andretti Global is a rebranded American motorsports company formerly known as Andretti Autosport. Michael Andretti, one of the most successful open-wheel racers in American history, runs the enterprise.
His father, Mario Andretti has also carved his name in motorsports history, winning the 1978 F1 championship. The father and son duo has an amazing relationship, both of them dedicating their life to the motorsports Industry. Their company has undoubtedly reached heights but this time, fans are celebrating their success within nations as Andretti Global’s proposal was accepted by the FIA, to become F1’s eleventh team.
FIA approves Andretti Global’s 11th F1 team proposal
Michael Andretti was successful in fulfilling his dream of launching an American team in Formula One after the FIA stated on Monday that they met all the criteria required to have one more team in the Formula One Industry.
Formula One stated, “We note the FIA’s conclusions about the first and second phase of their process and will now conduct our assessment of the merits of the remaining application.”
Michael’s father is a legend in this field and he too, was rejoiced by the FIA’s approval.
He said, “We appreciate the FIA’s rigorous, transparent and complete evaluation process and are incredibly excited to be allowed to compete in such a historic and prestigious championship,” the statement said. “The formation of this distinctly American team is an important moment of pride for all our employees and fans. We feel strongly that Andretti Cadillac’s deep racing competencies and the technological advancements that come from racing will benefit our customers while heightening enthusiasm for F1, globally.”
Andretti accused Gene Haas of owning an F1 team, but not having original American drivers in it, which is why he is bent on to represent the flag instead.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, has been supportive towards Michael and hence decided to speak up about it.
“Andretti Formula Racing LLC was the only entity which fulfils the selection criteria that was set in all material respects,” he said. “I congratulate Michael Andretti and his team on a thorough submission.”
The major issue of this decision is no other team is ready to expand and they have stated that if Andretti wants a team of his own so badly, then he should buy one. This is mainly due to the other members of the team having a financial cut if new members join the team.
What comes next in Andretti Global’s race to become an 11th F1 team?
According to Liberty Media, a mass media company that holds the F1 commercial rights, Andretti Global and partner Cadillac must prove their commercial value to proceed to the next stage or phase 3.
Tim Hauraney, an F1 and IndyCar analyst stated “The next chapter in all of this for Andretti Global is that they will be moved onto phase 3, which as a successful applicant the FIA will be referring them to FOM (F1) for commercial discussions.”
