Andy Reid Future: Will Chiefs HC run it back next NFL season?

Since taking over as the Chiefs’ head coach in 2013, Andy Reid has played a pivotal role in transforming the squad from a struggling team to a top-tier franchise. Under his guidance, the Chiefs achieved the remarkable feat of winning back-to-back Super Bowls, as the ninth team to achieve this glory.

Having previously hinted at the possibility of retirement, the conclusion of the season fueled rumors about Reid’s potential departure from coaching. However, Reid’s intentions regarding his retirement remained a topic of speculation until he eventually addressed the matter.

Will Andy Reid lead the Chiefs next NFL season?

Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, head coach Andy Reid has made it clear that retirement is not on his agenda. The team’s owner also confirmed it following the game.

Instead, he is setting his sights on leading the Chiefs to an unprecedented achievement: becoming the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Lombardi Trophies.

Reid’s remarkable coaching career reached new heights with Sunday’s win, placing him in esteemed company alongside coaching legends such as Bill Belichick, Chuck Noll, Joe Gibbs, and Bill Walsh, all of whom have won three or more Super Bowl rings.

When asked about the possibility of retiring on top, Reid responded with characteristic humility and determination to be unretired.

“Honestly, I haven’t even thought about it, but I get asked it. I mean, I’m still kind of in awe of the game and what went on there, so I really haven’t thought why or what or anything else,” he said.

As the Chiefs prepare for the upcoming season, Reid acknowledges the stiff competition within their division, particularly from the new head coach Jim Harbaugh-led Los Angeles Chargers. With recent coaching hirings and revamped teams in the AFC West, he stated the challenges that lie ahead.

“We’ve got great competition in the AFC West. We just had some hirings, coaching hirings. And these guys are good football coaches with good quarterbacks, good teams. And so, it’s not going to just be easy.”

Meanwhile, Harbough has already stated his desire to win multiple Super Bowls. Hence, it can be said that winning a third Super Bowl in a row will not be an easy one for the Chiefs.

How many Super Bowls did Andy Reid win with the Chiefs?

As Andy Reid gears up for his 26th season as head coach, his illustrious career boasts three Super Bowl titles with the Kansas City Chiefs, securing victories in Super Bowl LIV, LVII, and the recently concluded LVIII. The journey to championship glory began in the 2019 season when the Chiefs clinched their first Super Bowl appearance since 1970, emerging victorious with a 35–24 win over the Tennessee Titans.

In the 2022 season, his leadership guided the Chiefs to their 7th consecutive AFC West title, setting the stage for another Super Bowl appearance in LVII. This time, the Chiefs faced the Philadelphia Eagles, a team Reid had coached before.

Despite a challenging regular season in 2023 with an 11-6 record, the Chiefs defied the odds in the playoffs, setting the tone for an extraordinary Super Bowl showdown.

Entering the Super Bowl LVII as underdogs, the Chiefs ultimately defeated the San Francisco 49ers with a thrilling 25–22 victory, marking only the second overtime game in Super Bowl history.

With his wealth of experience and proven track record, Reid is now poised to lead the Chiefs to even greater heights in pursuit of another feather in his cap.
