It was a disappointing night for the Lakers after they fell to their second straight loss, earlier today against the Utah Jazz. Missing the presence of Lebron James, Anthony Davis and Co. struggled to get themselves going which eventually resulted in the defeat.
With loss, the Lakers move a step away in their quest to qualify for the NBA Playoffs and if this trend of losing games continues, the Lakers would have to end their season much earlier than they would’ve hoped for. Lakers superstar, Anthony Davis expressed his frustrations while speaking to the press after the game.
Anthony Davis blames himself for Lakers loss
Speaking like a true leader, Anthony Davis took on all the blame for the team’s bitter loss against the Jazz earlier in the day.
Picking up only his second triple-double of his career, the star was utterly disappointed with the way he carried himself throughout the game and emphasized on how he did not do the job well today and that the fault had to be blamed on his dismal performance.
“Everyone did their job, except me. I did not do my job. Obviously, Bron’s out, so everyone had to step up. Those guys did, except for myself. This one’s on me,” said Davis in blunt fashion.
Davis added, “All the guys in the locker room, stepped up, did their job, like I said before, it was on me, I didn’t do my job tonight.”
Over the last 10 games, Davis has been on a massive tear. He is averaging 27 points a game along with 11.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks which have propelled the Lakers effortlessly.
“We just got to keep going,” Davis concluded urging the Lakers to buckle up for the last stretch of the season with 42 games remaining.
While he recorded a triple double this game, Davis’ performance brought to light the inconsistent performances the star has had for the Lakers this season.
Anthony Davis’ inconsistent form continues
There is no doubt that Anthony Davis has been amazing for the Lakers this season. However, he has also been inconsistent, especially in the games that the Lakers need him to perform.
Against the Jazz, AD secured a triple-double, scoring 15 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and having 11 assists. In the process, he shot an atrocious 5 for 21 from the field which resulted in doing more damage than benefit for the team.
This performance against the Jazz, where he scored 15 points, came right after another game where the star scored just 13 points against the Phoenix Suns. As his horrendous shooting nightmares continue, it is crucial to note Davis’ monster performance against the Toronto Raptors had previously earned him high praise from the Lakers HC, Darvin Ham.
Davis scored more points in the fourth quarter of the Toronto fixture than he did in the games against Phoenix and the Jazz. This raises concerns about Davis’ consistency for the Purple and Gold. Though his scoring has been inconsistent, the star’s defensive attributes have been flawless for the team.
While his low scores go under the radar in LeBron’s presence, it raises a concern for the Lakers who are struggling to stay afloat in the Western Conference. The loss places the Lakers in 11th, one spot away from the NBA Play-In. While the constant exhaustion of the King is not recommended, it may be the only option for the struggling team.
The Lakers will also explore trade possibilities in the form of D’Angelo Russell and other bench players in order to land adequate stars to revitalize the impoverished Lakers’ roster.
