This offseason the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson were in the center of media attention due to their projected divorce, yet the Ravens stunned the NFL community by bringing back their veteran player with a record-setting deal. Jackson showed up in just two games this season where the Ravens’ quarterback room would be without him.
Although Lamar Jackson lessened the concern for the Ravens’ quarterback room, their running back room remains a key concern for their offense. Their RB room was a huge weak point of their offense last season, and now again they have concerns to meet following back-to-back injury issues of the Ravens’ running backs.
Ravens’ Lamar Jackson shines bright MVP-caliber play
With his outstanding performance in his return season, Jackson solidified his status as the only option in the quarterback room for the Baltimore squad. The quarterback on whom the franchise used a non-exclusive tag demonstrated that he is not dependent upon the Ravens, but rather that they are in desperate need of him.
With a stunning victory over the Houston Texans, Lamar’s team started the campaign. Jackson ran six times for 38 yards in a grueling 25-9 victory over Houston in Week 1 despite there being much speculation about how frequently he will run this season. His overall passing performance was 17 of 22 for 169 yards and one interception.
Jackson battled the Bengals toe-to-toe in his second game of the season, playing up to his MVP standards. The quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens completed 24 of his 33 throws for 237 passing yards and two touchdowns. He added 54 yards on the ground as well.
In May of this year, the top quarterback signed a five-year, $260 million deal with the Ravens. Jackson’s domination on each of these plays suggests that he is eager to show his appreciation to his team for placing their trust in him and emblazon his name in the league’s history.
RB woes continue amidst new injury concerns for Baltimore Ravens
The running back room of the Baltimore Ravens raised significant concerns as their vet running back J.K. Dobbins tore his Achilles in their season-opening win. Reportedly, he is ruled out of the whole season following the injury.
However, as soon as this negative news was over, another one affecting their running back room surfaced. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Justice Hill missed practice on Wednesday due to a toe ailment. He might miss the team’s Week 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts as a result of the injury.
Although apparently his injury is not very significant and he will possibly miss one match, the Baltimore Ravens’ coach Jim Harbaugh refused to reveal any details about the matter.
“It’s not anything to our advantage to talk about any of that stuff right now.”, coach Jim Harbaugh said.
According to reports, the Ravens evaluated James Robinson, Ronald Jones, and Kenyan Drake in an effort to replace Hill with a more qualified candidate for their running back team. Eventually, they signed Drake to the practice squad and snapped him up as Hill’s ideal backup. On Wednesday, the veteran of seven seasons joined the team on the field.
It will now be interesting to watch how the recently added running back can aid Jackson in their Week 3 matchup and offer depth to the running back room. Share your thoughts on the Ravens’ RB concerns with us in the comments.
