Football celebrates young and exceptional talent, and it is in this light that the likes of Jude Bellingham, Lamine Yamal and Aitana Bonmati have been presented with prestigious awards to further encourage them to reach for the skies.
Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal has secured ‘The Youngest’ honor at the Golden Boy Awards, adding his name to the prestigious list alongside previous recipients like Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale. This recognition comes after Yamal surpassed Gareth Bale’s record, underscoring his status as one of the most promising young talents in football.
Lamine Yamal wins accolade in Golden Boy ceremony
Barcelona’s young talents, Lamine Yamal and Aitana Bonmati, have been recognized at the 2023 Golden Boy Awards for their recent remarkable performances. Although the main prize went to Jude Bellingham, Yamal received a new trophy named ‘The Youngest 2023’ for being the youngest player to finish in the top three, showcasing Barcelona’s commitment to nurturing emerging talents.
At just 16 years old, Lamine Yamal, who celebrated his birthday in July, has ample time to aim for the main Golden Boy award, following the path laid out by his Barcelona teammates Pedri and Gavi. The recognition of Lamine Yamal’s incredible talent is a testament to the immense potential that the player possesses.
Other award recipients include Erling Haaland, who won the men’s golden player award, and Atlanta’s Giordio Scalvini, who emerged as the best Under-21 Italian player during the award ceremony.
In other categories, Arsenal’s sporting director Edu secured the Best European Manager prize, while Brighton’s Tony Bloom earned the title of Best European President. The formal presentation of these awards is scheduled to take place at a special ceremony in Turin on December 4.
Yamal became Spain’s youngest ever goalscorer
Barcelona’s Spanish winger, Lamine Yamal recently became LaLiga’s youngest goalscorer at the age of 16 years and 87 days. The goal in question came against Grenada, as he notched the ball in from close range.
Yamal, who made history in August as Barcelona’s youngest debutant in an official match, achieved another milestone by becoming Spain’s youngest-ever international and scorer at 16 years and 57 days during his debut in a Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia in September.
In that match against Granada, Yamal scored just before halftime when Barcelona, the LaLiga champions, were trailing 2-0. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by Malaga’s Fabrice Olinga, who scored against Celta Vigo in 2012 at the age of 16 years and 98 days.
Born and raised in Spain to a Moroccan father, Yamal has become a crucial part of Barcelona’s forward line. His inclusion in the senior Spain team dashed the hopes of Moroccan fans, who were anticipating a possible allegiance switch. Hence, this young player has the potential to become one of the country’s greats!
