Bayern Munich are having one of the worst seasons in their recent history, with the threat of ending the season trophy less now a real possibility. Some big changes have already been made with the recent appointment of Max Eberl as the new sporting director in March. Another big decision was mutually agreeing to terminate the contract of coach Thomas Tuchel.
Now the club have even bigger challenges, with the Bundesliga trophy effectively in the hands of Bayer Leverkusen. This summer would surely see a lot of changes in the club, and Max would have made those.
Max Eberl demands major Bayern shake-up in Summer
New sporting director Max Eberl confirmed that there need to be big changes at the club. After a disastrous season so far, which could further see them go trophy less for the first time since 2012, Bayern fans want to see some much-needed changes. And Max has promised just that: “Yes, a lot of things need to be changed.”
It is no surprise that the club has been in decline for a few years, but that was masked due to them still winning trophies. Big players have left the club with no impactful replacements and a poor transfer strategy. The previous hierarchy made a huge blunder last season when they sacked Julian Nagelsmann to bring in Thomas Tuchel, who is now due to leave at the end of the season.

With that being said, the foremost priority of the club is now to choose a new manager, and they are carefully monitoring their options. Max Eberl has already ruled out Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp previously, and there is talk of Nagelsmann returning. Xabi Alonso was a target but has turned them down. No negotiations have taken place and the club is taking their time to it, as they want a coach who will bring back the Bayern way of playing.
After the manager is chosen, they will decide to make changes in the dressing room. They will have to let go of some undesirable players and keep some existing ones who apparently want to leave. It will take a lot of work to undo the damages of the last few years.
No word on Alphonso Davies’ future from Max Eberl
One of the big issues for the club is the future of Alphonso Davies. The Canadian fullback’s contract ends in 2025 and is refusing to sign an extension. He is expected to leave for Real Madrid, with Los Blancos ready to bring him in this summer for a reduced price.
When asked about the player’s future, Max Eberl refused to say anything substantial, “I know when I speak, something will be made out of it. I donât want that.” Davies was offered a contract extension with an ultimatum, but his agent rejected that. This has caused concern at the club that they will be unable to keep him and will be forced to sell him to Real Madrid for a bargain price.

Along with Davies, there is also the work of renewing the contracts of Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich, among others. But for now, the club will focus on their next game, which is against Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final fixture on Wednesday.
