The transfer market is becoming exhilarating as Bayern Munich continues its search for defenders, aiming to hijack Tottenham’s £25 million target with a late improvised bid. However, amidst the excitement, the plan failed to materialize after Radu Dragusin turned down the offer.
Tottenham Hotspur beat the Bundesliga champions to secure the signature of the Genoa defender, one of their top priority targets in this January window. Thus, the Bavarians are now focused on acquiring Spur’s English center-back Eric Dier to join forces with former teammate Harry Kane.
Bayern Munich expect to sign Eric Dier
The English international, Eric Dier, has fallen out of favor with boss Ange Postecoglou, making only four league appearances this season and starting just once. Therefore, the defender is on the horizon to conclude his decade-long tenure at the London Club.
Bayern Munich is a potential destination for the 29-year-old, whose contract is poised to expire in the summer of 2024. However, Dier is eager to secure regular minutes and is seeking an early exit in January. His last outing was an 8-minute cameo appearance as a substitute in Spurs’ previous league fixture.
The Bundesliga side was keeping tabs on the Romanian defender and made considerable offers for the 21-year-old center-back, but the player swiftly declined the opportunity. Instead, he ensured his move to the English capital to join Spurs over the Bavarians, despite the Germans’ last-gasp efforts to hijack the deal.
According to recent developments, Bayern Munich is turning to the Spurs camp in an effort to hire the English defender after Radu Dragusin rejected their offer. A verbal agreement between Bayern and Dier has been reached with a €4 million transfer fee and a contract until 2025 with a one-year extension.
Radu Dragusin reportedly picked Spurs over Bayern Munich
Tottenham is having a successful January window so far, as they have managed to acquire yet another preferred target, Radu Dragusin, from Serie A side Genoa FC. This comes after stiff competition from Bayern Munich for the defender, who himself picked a move to England rather than Germany.
Reportedly, Spurs offered an improved bid overnight to secure the signature of Dragusin on a €30 million deal, including add-ons. The package also includes the loan move of right-back Djed Spence.
The 21-year-old Romanian international will travel to London for medical and is expected to seal the move by signing the contract next week, joining the squad with another latest arrival, Timo Werner who recently got mocked.
It is believed that the defender’s decision was based on the assurance that he would secure a place in the starting eleven, continuing his exceptional form in Serie A. At Spurs, he will be guaranteed a playing spot, although his decision to reject Bayern Munich has shocked many, including his agent.
