Bear TE Cole Kmet’s comment on Justin Fields future sparks trade rumors: “The NFL is unfair”

Justin Fields kicked off his national-level football career with the Chicago Bears, displaying potential but facing challenges in maintaining consistency as a passer. Although Felds showed improvement over his first three seasons, his performance was not enough to elevate the Bears, who ended the last season with a disappointing 7-10 record.

Trade speculations involving the quarterback have grown in intensity as the 2024 season approaches, attracting the interest of colleagues such as Cole Kmet, a tight end with the Bears.

Update on Justin Fields trade rumors

The Chicago Bears are poised to explore potential offers for quarterback Justin Fields as they weigh their options with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft. Concurrently, there are reports suggesting the Bears are eyeing USC standout Caleb Williams to fortify their offensive lineup, as Williams’ camp dispelled earlier rumors about Williams’ reluctance to join the team.

Meanwhile, Fields shared a poignant “goodbye message,” expressing his deep affection for the city and his dedicated fanbase. This heartfelt gesture added to the uncertainty surrounding his future in Chicago.

Amidst these developments, the Atlanta Falcons have emerged as a potential destination for Fields, with the team facing challenges in their quarterback situation throughout the previous season. With Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke struggling to solidify the position, the arrival of new head coach Raheem Morris signals a potential resurgence in the Falcons’ quarterback room.

Recent reports suggest that the Pittsburgh Steelers are also connected to the Bears’ quarterback situation, alongside the Falcons. One reason for these rumors is the high regard head coach Mike Tomlin has for Justin Fields. However, some analysts, like Colin Cowherd, have strongly recommended Fields not to join Tomlin’s team.

Cole Kmet’s comments hint at Justin Fields exit

While Bears fans are rallying behind their starter Justin Fields regarding his trade rumors, Cole Kmet chose a measured and pragmatic stance, offering insights into the harsh realities of the NFL.

Kmet made us all remember the league’s  inherent unfairness, acknowledging the constant pursuit of better and more cost-effective options at every position. In a candid assessment, he stated the importance of evaluating potential replacements, indicating that the franchise must determine whether the rumored No. 1 pick would offer an improvement over Fields.

“The NFL is unfair. That’s just what it is. If they find a better, cheaper option at any position, they’re gonna do that. That’s what they gotta evaluate, if whoever they’re gonna take at No. 1 is better. That’s what this business is.”

However, should the Bears opt to part ways with Justin Fields, the quarterback’s fate will rest in the hands of his next team, which would inherit the sizable financial commitment associated with Fields’ contract in hopes of realizing his full potential in a new environment.
