Bengals announce Joe Burrow’s recovery journey after successful wrist surgery: “Comeback starts now”

Fortune continues to elude Cincinnati Bengals’ starter Joe Burrow. Despite making a stunning return to the field after last season’s season-ending injury, he has once again succumbed to misfortune.

Regrettably, this latest injury dashed the Bengals’ playoff hopes and forced Burrow to exit the team for this season. The Bengals recently disclosed the quarterback’s injury update regarding his latest injury, with two out of his four campaigns concluding in November with season-ending injuries.

Cincinnati Bengals confirm Joe Burrow’s season-ending surgery

Joe Burrow left a Week 11 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens with a torn ligament in his right wrist. The severity of the injury prompted head coach Zac Taylor to announce on the same night that Burrow would miss the remainder of the season. The Bengals later confirmed it the following day.

To address the damage, Burrow underwent surgery today to repair the injured ligament. The Cincinnati Bengals, in a statement, declared the procedure a success and expressed optimism about his recovery on Monday.

In the aftermath of the successful surgery, the Bengals reiterated their confidence in Burrow’s recovery and announced his imminent return, stating that Burrow is “expected to make a full recovery.”

“Joe Burrow underwent successful surgery on his wrist today. The procedure went as planned, and he is expected to make a complete recovery. Joe will return to Cincinnati this week to be with the team and begin the recovery and rehab process.”

Nevertheless, the team refrained from providing a specific timeline for his return to the field. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor was cautious not to speculate on a recovery timeline before the surgery results were known. He asserted the need for more information during a Monday news conference.

“I don’t want to put a timeline on it until we get more information after the surgery today.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport had previously reported the impending surgery, anticipating a complete recovery in time for the 2024 season. The focus now shifts to the rehabilitation process as Burrow embarks on his journey back to peak performance.

Bengals legend sees silver lining amid Burrow’s injury

As the Cincinnati Bengals enter Week 13 with a 6-5 record, their season is teetering on the edge of potential disaster. The recent injury to star quarterback Joe Burrow only adds to the challenges faced by the team’s offense, intensifying the need for a solid backup plan.

In a recent broadcast on Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football,” Bengals legend Andrew Whitworth shared valuable insights into the current state of the Cincinnati team. With the spotlight on the first NFL Black Friday game set to air on Prime Video, Whitworth sees this as a crucial opportunity for the Bengals to identify the perfect backup for Joe Burrow.

Whitworth emphasized the silver lining in such challenging situations. He pointed out the importance of developing a resolve and a playing style that reflect Burrow’s leadership.

“I think in some ways it can be really good for your football team because new guys are going to have to step up. You’re going to have to have this resolve that Joe’s not there, but we’re going to go play in a certain way that represents the style that he would be leading us through. You’re going to have to have somebody on that offensive side of the football that takes the reins for that.”

As the Bengals navigate through adversity, the search for a player who can seamlessly take on the reins and maintain the team’s offensive momentum becomes a pivotal focus for the franchise.

Meanwhile, an ongoing NFL investigation raises questions about whether the Bengals withheld information regarding a wrist condition before Burrow’s Week 11 injury. With the injury, the 26-year-old held himself out of the MVP race, though, at a time, he was Myles Garrett’s favorite pick.

Nevertheless, throughout the season, Burrow’s teammate Ja’Marr Chase had suggested he take breaks during certain plays to ensure he was fully fit. Perhaps Joe Burrow should give Chase’s advice a bit more consideration.
