Bengals fan once stayed 57 days on their restaurant roof due to the team’s consecutive losing streak in NFL 2019-20

Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals have hinted at a fantastic season this year, but the squad is already in a difficult situation after starting the year 0-2. While the Cincinnati Bengals have not yet secured a Super Bowl victory, their two consecutive losses have dampened the hopes of the team’s fans.

This disappointing start has led the team’s fanbase to reminisce about Burrow’s team’s losing streak from a previous season, prompting one Bengals fan to undertake a humorous initiative that quickly gained public attention.

Bengals fan had to spend 57 days on their restaurant roof in NFL 2019-20

The NFL holds a special place in the hearts of American football enthusiasts, who spare no effort to express their love for their favorite teams. Aside from the NFL teams’ performances on the field, fans often make headlines for their extreme dedication to their team or sometimes due to the altercations that occur during games.

However, the level of devotion displayed by a Bengals fan among the passionate followers left the entire NFL community in shock. Jeff Lanham, a fan, slept on the roof of his Milan, Indiana restaurant for 57 days as a result of the Cincinnati team’s losing record.

Lanham’s unusual decision reportedly occurred just before the Bengals’ heartbreaking loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the final seconds of the game. A bet led to the plan of spending nights on the roof in hopes of his team’s first victory of the 2019–20 campaign. It was challenging for Lanham to endure eight consecutive weeks on the roof, but he couldn’t give up because he knew his friends who had bet against him would criticize him if he didn’t follow through.

“There were times I really wanted to come down. But my buddies would never let me live it down if I came down.”

However, Lanham’s wife’s assistance greatly contributed to his ability to stay up there for so long, as she faithfully delivered everything her husband needed on the roof.

Bengals set NFL record with 11 straight losses in 2019-20

With a record of 2-14 in 2019, the Cincinnati Bengals matched their 52-year-old record for the poorest record in a season. The Bengals finally defeated the New York Jets to earn their first victory of the 2019 campaign. Additionally, this was their first victory in the regular season since Week 15 of the previous campaign in 2018.

Apart from the team members, Lanham’s ability to descend from the roof and spend the night in his bed made the victory a significant day for him. After the dramatic victory, the devoted fan voiced his relief that he was finally free of the worry that he would have to spend the entire season on a roof.

“I was stuck. Just glad I won’t be there all season.”

Nevertheless, it appears that the team is once again walking in the same manner this season following a great loss against the Cleveland Browns and a narrow loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Even with their star player Burrow, their offense struggled to score often during those consecutive losses.
