The Cincinnati Bengals’ players Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase share a tight bond on and off the field since the duo’s tenure together at LSU. Reportedly as a display of respect to Joe’s decision, the Bengals drafted Chase as the overall number 5 pick which in turn let them be teammates again.
In recent times, Burrow has been struggling with injury-related issues and probably wishes to make a comeback to the field as soon as possible. However, Ja’Marr seems to have some solid advice for his long-time teammate and friend.
Ja’Marr Chase urges caution for Joe Burrow amid calf injury
Burrow injured himself last month while participating in the Eagles’ training camp. The quarterback was spotted grabbing at his lower leg before he was carted off the field. Later the teams’ head coach Zac Taylor made an announcement that Joe would be out for “several weeks” with a right calf strain.
Just after the incident, Chase hoped for a quick recovery and comeback for Burrow, however, concern arose in the receiver’s mind recently that he retorted in an interview with NFL Network on Friday. In the interview, Chase was blunt and said he would not appreciate seeing Burrow play in the Bengals’ season-opening game.
He urged the Pro Bowler to follow his lead because he prolonged his injury troubles from the previous season when he had a hip injury and needed a lot of time to make a strong and healthy comeback.
“I told him, in all honesty, I don’t want him there,” Chase said. “I sat out an extra game just to let my hip heal all the way up. You don’t want to cause problems later in the season. As long as you’re there after Week Five and on, we’re good, brother.”
As Ja’Marr was asked about the update on JBs’ injury, the player revealed that the starter is not sure about the exact time of his comeback but expects it to be soon,
“He told me he’s going to see how he feels when the time comes. He doesn’t know when he’ll be back, but he’ll be back soon.”
What is Joe Burrow’s current contract?
In the 2020 NFL Draft, the 26-year-old signed a four-year rookie deal with his franchise for $36.19 million. The Bengals exercised the great player’s fifth-year option earlier this summer, leaving him with two years left on his contract before he can go for free in 2025.
However, negotiations between the Bengals and quarterback Burrow on a long-term extension are still underway and the Bengals’ legendary player does not appear ready to disclose anything just yet.
“I’m involved. That’s in the works,” he told reporters. “That’s not really something that I like to play out in the media. Just the way I think they want to do business, I want to do business, we prefer to keep that between us.”
