The Buffalo Bills started their NFL season with a lackluster performance. Their continuous downfall even earned “trash Allen” jab for quarterback Josh Allen. However, the team incredibly bounced back after their loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. They defeated big teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, and the winning streak is yet to falter.
The Bills defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31–17 in the wild card round under bad weather conditions. Now, they have the opportunity to face the Chiefs once again in the divisional playoff round. Prior to the game, the team made the decision to exclude a number of top-tier players, including wide receiver Gabe Davis.
Injury update on Gabe Davis
Gabe Davis has been ruled out for the second consecutive game due to a knee injury sustained in the regular-season finale against the Miami Dolphins. The Bills’ injury worries were evident during Wednesday’s walkthrough, where eight players were listed as non-participants, with Davis notably absent, via SI.com.
The veteran’s ordeal began in Week 18’s game against the Dolphins, when he left the field in the second half due to an injury. He was benched after failing to make a reception despite being targeted twice.
The specific details surrounding the WR’s injury are still uncertain. It was eventually discovered that he had a sprained PCL, despite the fact that he had originally been classified as doubtful to return. Davis had an impressive season, recording 45 passes for 746 yards and scoring seven touchdowns. Trent Sherfield and Khalil Shakir will be key contributors for the Bills in the wide receiver department.
Important players ruled out of Bills roster
Besides Gabe Davis, Buffalo will be without other key players, including safety Taylor Rapp, linebacker Baylon Spector, and cornerback Christian Benford. Taylor Rapp’s lingering calf injury will sideline him for the second consecutive game in the divisional round. The absence of him opens the door for Damar Hamlin to potentially see an increased role in defensive snaps.
Christian Benford will be unable to participate in the divisional round due to a knee injury he sustained during Monday’s victory against the Steelers. Dane Jackson is anticipated to rise to the occasion and take on the role previously held by Benford.
Baylon Spector was given the opportunity to start in place of the injured Tyrel Dodson. He is now among the ruled-out players due to a back injury sustained during the playoff-opening victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bills will have to make some changes to their defensive lineup due to Spector’s absence.
