The Boston Celtics are on an absolute roll this season, firing on all the right cylinders and establishing themselves as strong contenders in the league. With Jayson Tatum leading the Celtics, the team has cemented its position on top of the Eastern Conference of the NBA.
However, it seems like the team is missing the veteran presence of Blake Griffin, who energized the team with his leadership and entertainment off the bench in the limited games he played.
Blake Griffin responds to Celtics players wanting him back
Despite playing just a single season with a very limited number of matches, Blake Griffin has emerged as a fan favorite not just among the people of Boston but also among the players of the Boston Celtics. Currently, the dunk legend Blake Griffin is enjoying his time away from basketball, but Derrick White and Payton Pritchard are very eager to welcome the star back.
Both stars expressed their joy and excitement at the thought of playing one more time with Blake Griffin and even called the six-time All-Star the best teammate they’ve had. Speaking on a podcast, Derrick White said, “He was the best teammate. I think the whole team has been begging him to come back to Boston.”
Payton Pritchard added on by saying, “I texted him like a week or two ago like, ‘wanna come for one last ride?’ He said he’s enjoying his life. The fanatics did not end there as the host of the podcast, ‘Pardon My Take’ went onto FaceTime Griffin in the presence of the two Celtics stars.
However, the former Celtics player, Blake Griffin denied an opportunity to make a return to the Celtics once again robbing Celtics fans of the opportunity to see his insane dunks. When asked about a potential return to the Celtics, Griffin said, “I am just enjoying life right now.”
While Blake denied a comeback, he did not deny the Celtics a chance to win the championship this season. He said, “They’re my favorites. I don’t want to put bad juju on them, but they’re heavy favorites in my mind.” While Blake is an ardent follower and fan of the Celtics, members and fans of the team will hope for Blake’s potential return to the franchise.
Joe Mazzulla addresses Blake Griffin’s return chances
Joe Mazzulla, the coach of the Celtics, too has tried his hand in luring the veteran back to the Celtics. Griffin’s role on the Celtics wasn’t based on performance, rather it was based on the star’s presence which revitalized the team in desperate situations.
Last season, Blake Griffin played 41 games for the Boston Celtics in which he started in 16 of the Celtics’ games. However, due to his limited role with the squad, Griffin averaged a career low 4.1 points per game, along with 1.5 assists and 3.8 rebounds. Griffin also played in the fewest minutes of his career. Despite his lows, Blake Griffin emerged as one of the highs of the Boston Celtics last season.
When Joe Mazzulla was asked about a potential Blake Griffin return, the coach ruled out all possibilities, giving up hope on the chance of a reunion. Mazzulla said, “When he told me at the end of last year that his family was the most important thing, I stopped talking to him about it because I know what it’s like to be away from your kids and away from your family.”
With Blake Griffin staying true to his word, a reunion with the Boston Celtics seems quite uncertain, a news that isn’t joyful for much of the Celtics fanbase.
