Brad Allen controversial decision: what potential consequence the NFL ref’s crew face?

In the NFL, referees and officiators are responsible for making sure that the game is being played in a fair and engaging manner and that there is no foul play running from a particular outfit. This results in some calls that the audience of a particular team deems to be unfair and calls out the officiators for being biased.

In doing so, sometimes we forget that the referees are also humans, and all of their officiating experience only counts for so much when it comes to judging real-life scenarios. That is something that might have happened with referee Brad Allen after his alleged “wrong” decision, which might’ve cost the Detroit Lions a much-needed win.

What potential consequence does Brad Allen’s crew face?

After committing a serious officiating error in the game between the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions, Brad Allen has remained on the defensive and tried to make sense of his decision. Whatever the unanimous call might turn out to be, one thing is for certain: The Detroit Lions camp will be severely impacted in terms of their playoff qualification hopes.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Brad Allen and his crew are going to be demoted and will not be featured in the NFL postseason games. A large part of Brad Allen’s crew is not gonna be officiating in the postseason,” Schefter reported. “They’re gonna get downgraded.”

Previous controversial calls from Allen’s crew

Allen himself tried to downplay the situation and justify his decision-making with a statement after the game. He said, “So, we had a situation where if you were going to have an ineligible number occupy an eligible position, you had to report that to the referee. On this particular play, No. 70 [Dan Skipper], who had reported during the game a couple of times, reported to me as eligible.

He continued, “Then he lined up at the tackle position. So, actually, he didn’t have to report at all. No. 68 [Taylor Decker], who ended up going downfield and touching the pass, did not report. Therefore, he is an ineligible touching a pass that goes beyond the line, which makes it a foul. So, the issue is, No. 70 did report, No. 68 did not.”

To our knowledge, Brad Allen hasn’t had any other controversial calls, and certainly not any that have been of such magnitude. If you have any such instances that come to mind, let us know down in the comments below.
