Brock Purdy update: 49ers QB full-go in practice, likely to start NFL Week 8 against Bengals

The San Francisco 49ers’ fortunes appear to be closely linked to their starting quarterback, Brock Purdy. When he excels, the team secures victories, but if his performance falters, their chances of winning diminish. This was starkly evident in Weeks 6 and 7, where the 49ers suffered consecutive losses, resulting in their demotion to a 5-2 record.

While the team is eager to make a strong comeback in Week 8, their star player’s injury has become a major talking point, causing fans to speculate about the possibility of a third consecutive defeat. Thankfully, recent updates have provided some reassurance, giving fans hope for a better outcome and wishing for a winning performance from both their quarterback and the team.

49ers QB Brock Purdy full-go in practice

Based on the latest updates, Brock Purdy fully participated in Friday’s practice. With Purdy back on the field, Fred Warner was seen enjoying himself while the quarterback and his teammates put in some intense work.

Before that, Purdy was hit in the helmet late during the Monday night game against Minnesota. There is speculation on social media, as reported by CBS News, that the 49ers quarterback may have suffered a concussion during a quarterback sneak earlier in the fourth quarter of Week 7, when they were defeated by the Vikings.

He played the whole match without raising any doubts, and later, the 23-year-old first reported concussion symptoms on the 49ers’ flight home from Minnesota. Coach Kyle Shanahan declared his name on the NFL’s concussion protocol on Tuesday.

Brock Purdy likely to start Week 8 matchup vs Bengals

Following the concussion protocol, Brock Purdy was listed as questionable to play in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Meanwhile,  his active participation in practice hints that the second-year quarterback could be cleared from his concussion and will join his team to play this weekend against the Bengals.

Nevertheless, the 49ers team is now vying to start with him rather than thinking about his health; hence, Shanahan said their quarterback still must clear a final step on Saturday in order to play Sunday against the Bengals.

Prior to that, the team was reportedly preparing to start with Sam Darnold, as he was given little chance to showcase his prowess after a stunning preseason contest.

“I have as much confidence in Sam as I could have with someone that I haven’t gone into a real NFL game with. He was great in the offseason. He’s been great here in these seven weeks so far and he’s always ready to go.”

During the preseason, the team framed a backup quarterback battle between Darnold and Kyle Trask. In this race, Sam came out succeeding the backup job of Purdy.

Do you think the 49ers should bench Purdy for a match to assist him in full recovery while unfolding an opportunity for Trask?
